It seems very quiet on here of late.

Adrian,

Participation on the Forum will always have its up and down.  Be patient with some posts and if you have little response initially, come back with a comment later as a follow-up reminder.

Life happens.  We had a 7.0 earthquake last Thursday (12-5-2024) that hit our neighborhood hard.  Everyone’s home on our ridge has rooms that were a mess with fallen debris, bookcases on the floor and display cabinets partially emptied, waterlines broken, lots of broken glass and glass wares, etc.  It’s now been a full week since the quake and we still do not have everything pick up and our house fully restored.  Fortunately, no one had any great financial loss, but it’s been a lot of work to pick up, clean, and make repairs.  We still have areas in our garage, barn, and shop that have doors blocked with fallen debris and need to still work on gaining access and clear paths to allow cleanup.

Most of my week since the quake has been working to restore water to our home and working with our neighbors to get repairs done on our rural subdivision waterline to secure water for everyone’s home in the area.

All this as we go into the Christmas holiday.  Luckily with this December quake, it being the third December quake the area has seen in the last 3 out 4 years of 6.0 or more, there was little damage elsewhere.  The quake that occurred on December 22, 2022, resulted in major damage to the town of Rio Dell just two miles down the road.  A number of homes following that quake had to be ‘Red Tagged’, which means they were uninhabitable until repairs were made.

I have not had time to access the condition of my snuff bottle collection but will get to that soon.  A cursory inspection as we’ve been picking up things seems to indicate the collection is in order.  Most of my bottles, and all the quality bottles, are stored in padded boxes.  That was a good thing!!!!!

Life happens!  We our thankful everyone is safe with no major disruptions to anyone’s lives.

Got to get back to the repairs and clean up, Charll

My gosh Charll. I did not know the quake was so serious. Ever since the new person was announced as president, I have not turned on the news even one time. I just read current affairs online via Aljazeera.

I cannot imagine the hardship you are going through. Not to make light of all your dealing with but it must be a great relief to know your collection has survived.

Wishing you well Charll..

Hi Charll,

So sorry to hear what you have been dealing with, good to hear everyone is safe as that is the most important thing and hopefully you will manage to get back to normal with time.

Best wishes,

Adrian.

Dear Charll,
if we were living closer, I would surely be happy in helping you to fix the damages. What a pity, but it is good  to hear that no persons and your collection too are  safe.
I have my collection on display, and although I live in an area where earthquakes are very rare, it would not be a bad idea to store the better bottles in safer  places.
Kind regards
Giovanni

Charll so sorry to hear about the quake.  I am happy that you and your family are safe.  Good luck with the clean up.  This sort of thing typically brings out the best in neighbors.  Glad your collection appears good.  Best to you and Donna.  Jo

All,

Thanks for all the well wishes.  Hope to have the house back in full order by the end of today.  The snuff bottle collection so far is good, though half the boxes fell off the storage shelves and were strewn across the floor, along with books and other decorative items.

Again not much loss of items, just a lot of water supply repairs and cleanup.  Only found a few broken items so far.  The worse of it inside was display cabinet broken glass.

Charll, so sorry to hear about your earthquake damage. I know that you had mentioned before about having your bottles in boxes. The best thing is that you and Donna are safe. Beat wishes....John
