All, does anyone recognize the mark on the a porcelain bottle in the pic below.  Charll

Is it "Hall Where Benevolence Resides"?

Hi Charll

You are right. This is the hallmark of Yuan Shikai of the Republic period.

Regards.

Thanks Richard for the conformation and added information.  It was on an attractive polychrome enamel snuff bottle I pick up on eBay. I felt it was possibly Republic Period at the earliest and up to the 1970's-80's. Will provide more information when it arrives.

Richard recently translated this mark for me as "Taishi Shaobao".It is a rank mark referring to the teacher or assistant teacher of the emperor. I am dating the bottle 1820 to 1855. Perhaps Giovanni has seen it before.

Dear John,
I am sorry but I never heard about that mark. But I must say that I am weak when it comes to marks.
Kindregards

Thanks all.

John, the motif of the Foo lions is quite common on porcelain, but the mark is not.

Regards.
