@Richard : Thank you Richard !

Hello Joey,

I live near Paris.

I discovered the world of snuff bottles at the end of last year and I have bought 11 bottles for my "collection" so far, others that I like less that I have to put up for sale.
I really like stone snuff bottles and more generally simple ones...I have less trouble finding old ones.

Thank you for your message, I hope the Easter holidays went well

I have a few questions about some of my snuff bottles, can I ask them on this thread?

2 quick pics of my snuffs, sorry for the quality is from my phone.

@Giovanni,

Thank you Giovanni,
I have consulted your site several times since I discovered it, it is very pleasant to use and I had a lot of pleasure looking at your wonderful Chinese collections!

Dear Thomas,
what to say? Excellent start! I am sure that many of us has not started so well.
Each of your bottles are worth to be collected, congratulations. I know the double gourd one, I saw it several times on eBay and was really tempted by it. Happy to see that it went in good hands.
Bravo.
Kind regards
Giovanni
PS": thank you for your kind words about my collection

Thomas,

Yes, this is an excellent start and of much better quality then I normally see with a new snuff bottle collector.  You have a very good discerning eye.  From what I can see in the photos I would not have hesitated to add any of these bottles to my collection.

Thomas,

     I'm impressed!
My first 11 bottles were nowhere near as good as yours.
And the opinion of the 'pro' or not, the Nephrite looks ca.1760 -1820 to me.
I believe the Easter Holidays went well, though the Eastern Churches celebrate their
Easter Week from this coming Friday.
But as a Jew, I celebrate Passover, which ends this coming Friday night.
And has been great so far.
Best,
Joey

I am really impressed! My first dozen went into the junk drawer after I stumbled upon a real bottle and realized my mistakes.   Bob

Dear Bob,

    My first 32 mistakes went into a furniture auction in Sotheby's Torquay, in 2 lots of 16 [!] in 1981,
with a UKŁ 1,000 [at the time US$2,250] reserve.

And 'accidentally' sold for UKŁ 100 each lot!!!

Thanks to good friends, Mercedes & Carlos Soler of Barcelona, who were there when I was told the news,
I got my UKŁ 2,000 from Sotheby's without any charges.

But since Maggie Thatcher of blessed memory [and she really is - a great lady from her youth -
this amazing Righteous Gentile, at age 12 a rural grocer's daughter,
helped save a Jewish girl from Vienna, after Hitler occupied Austria.],
had devalued the UK Ł, I got US$3,500 instead of US$4,500.

And in retrospect, a 'boring' plain Calcined Jade, which was one of the 32,
I now realise, was definitely worthy of staying in my collection!

I'm sure most of you have heard of Eldred's Auctions in East Dennis MA in the USA.
Well, you may also have heard my 'famous' quip:
"Eldred's is to collectors, as graveyards are to Doctors;
It's where they hide their mistakes!"

Best,
Happy Passover,
Joey
