I was a little surprised that is petite glass snuff bottle was overlooked and had little bid activity in a Quinn's Auction Galleries auction this last January 2021.  Fortunate for me I guess.  Grin

Milk Glass Snuff Bottle:
Petite vasa form white milk glass snuff bottle imitating white jade with matching white stopper.  It is uniformly well hollowed with a smooth polished interior walls that follows the lines of the exterior bottle shape.  No bubbles in glass which could indicate bottle was crafted from a solid piece of glass, rather than blown.  Circular dimple foot.  Stopper appears to be white mutton fat jade, ivory spoon with rapped cork plug.   Height is 5.2 cm by 2.8 cm wide without stopper.

Period: ca. 19th century, Beijing glass works (?).

Condition: Nearly pristine.

Provenance: Quinn’s Auction Galleries, Fine and Decorative Arts Auction, 01-30-2021, Lot 0566

Thank you for sharing this bottle. In my opinion, plain bottles can be the most beautiful. The similar example you showed looks like it could be the same bottle. Nice find.   Bob

Thanks for sharing Charll and a beautiful bottle IMO. I would have guessed at 18th/19thC. Although, glass bottles seem extremely tricky to date accurately and especially these plain examples.

Best,

Very elegant bottle dear Charll. And a perfect imitation, it really looks jade in the pictures.
I like the wide spoon too.
Kind regards

Dear Charll,

I agree with the other comments.
A beautiful and elegant snuff bottle. But rather than use the term 'mutton fat' which I contend is really a creamy pinkish beige,
since that was the colour of the genuine mutton fat SB with the Qianlong mark and period I purchased in 1989 in London;
why not just describe the stopper as White Nephrite Jade?
Best,
Joey

Joey, thanks for the comments on the bottle and a likely more appropriate description of the jade stopper.  Charll

Dear Charll,

Thanks for sharing the beautifully shaped
bottle. My glass-imitating-jade bottle is greenish
in color. By the way, what’s the diameter of the mouth
of your bottle ?
