Hi Charll,

I did like the yellow glass bottle and the agate has lovely markings. In the group of three the red splashed bottle was interesting and unusual to be less hollowed.

Regards, Adrian.

Dear Adrian,

There used to be lots and lots of really well hollowed out agate bottles floating around. Everyone had 5 or 6 of them.
The better ones were honey coloured, and had what looked like scalloping in the material; or like clouds.

But Ted Adameck would buy bottles, and sell the fine older stoppers for US$100-200 or more, to collectors who liked fine old stoppers on their better bottles [like yours truly], and then buy cheap US$5 stoppers with black nylon collars from YF of blessed memory.
Ted also had a workroom, where he 'repaired' bottles, especially when there was a chip in the neck. He'd grind it down, and then re-polish the neck, etc.
He was getting older, and his sight and coordination were going, so figure out why so many of his prized SBs are wonky.

In 2016, I asked a friend, Wayne Morioka, who was also a friend of Ted's, to pick me up at the Trump Waikiki International Resort on Kalia Rd., then pick up Ted at his place on Ala Wai Blvd [overlooking the Ala Wai Canal], 3 min. drive away, then drive us to Ted's favourite luncheon venue, near the Outrigger Canoe Club, about 10 min. drive away. We had to both help Ted into the car and out of it, and to the table. He was very wobbly, 3 years ago.
But he insisted on living independently almost till the end.
A USMC officer to the end.
Best,
Joey

and a three bottle group (lot 91) that many collectors/dealers may consider crap, but there is one bottle in the group I wanted to take a hard look at, and it is not the glass imitating jasper.

Charll

Very interesting bottle Charll…  Sounds like you know what it is, but I have absolutely no idea !

Congrats on your winning bottles !

If this link works here you go: https://www.liveauctioneers.com/catalog/150834_snuff-bottles-from-the-estate-of-ted-adameck/

Note these are the bid price and does not include the auction premium.

Thanks Charll,

I had placed absentee bids in advance since the auction took place in the middle of the night for me. Good to see how my bids compared. I was the under-bidder on several lots, while the two I really had my eye on went for 6-8 times more!

Congratulations on your wins! I was quite relieved to have not won any bottles in the end, as I already have too many agates in my collection.

Could not help but notice these two bottles.. One by Yong Shoutian, and the other I do not know.. But 6000.00 ?  I think the YST might be about a 300.00 bottle at best.

Dear George,

The other bottle I reckon is probably signed by Wang Xisan and painted by one of his disciples in his style in 1969. It’s signed Yihu Zhai (One Bottle Studio) - Wang’s studio.

Those who placed high bids on this lot probably believed the bottle was done by Master Wang himself...

Best,
Samson
