Hello dear snuff bottles lovers,

I live in France in Orleans. I'm interested in Chinese and Japanese art since few years with a specific interest for porcelain. I really like the Qianjiang production and Republic period porcelain. In my researches in local flee markets I meet sometimes few snuff bottles, a really difficult field it seems with many fakes. I did few mistakes buying few tourist snuff bottles but I begin to understand what kind of piece I have to search. I particularly like inside painted snuff bottles.

Happy to have found a place to learn about snuff bottles with many specialists and friendly people.

Warm regards,
Yann

Yann,

Welcome to the Forum.  Besides doing a lot of online searches on the subject and reading of the various literature that may be available you, the Forum is a good location to have one-on-one contact with several collectors from around the world.  I myself began collecting shortly after I graduated from college with a degree in Forestry (since 1979) but did get into it seriously until 2005.  I live in the Redwood Region of Northern California, USA.

Dear Yann,

I already introduced myself, so you know I'm living in Jerusalem Israel.
I began collecting in Feb. 1970, just before my Bar Mitzva and 13th birthday. We moved to Jerusalem just about 3 1/2 yrs. later. Best thing we ever did, as a family.

There is one very good, reliable [but not cheap!] dealer in France,
Laurence Souksi, in Paris. Bottles also come up every once in a while at auctions [Galleries Nouvelle Drouot].

   Best,
Joey

I did already say welcome to you in another post, but will join in here as well telling you warm welcome from Washington State .

I constantly search in Spokane at different markets, yard sales and such as well as antique shops for snuff bottles, but have never found anything.

Dear Yann,
welcome here. I live closer to you than the other previous members, since I live in North Italy.
I too collect Chinese ceramics, of all periods except the after-Republic ones. And I too love Qianjiang porcelain.
And I too like hunting at flea markets, although in the recent years the situation changed completely, it is rare nowadays to find something decent.
But I am ignorant about inside painted bottles, in fact I have only a very few of them.
Wish you a good stay here!
Kind regards
Giovanni
