Dear John,

     This bottle is amazing.
I can see that the first character is Xian but the second is not Feng;
and anyway, I would date it ca. 1880 - 1911.
And possibly Imperial Porcelain Works, Jingdezhen.
Beautiful quality.

FYI - I'm incommunicado till 19:30 Jerusalem time, tomorrow, Wednesday 5.October.
Yom Kippur. I'll be dealing with other stuff. Including praying for the Seventy Nations
[ie., you guys - all the rest of the world], that G-D Forgives all of us our sins.
Best,
Joey

Joey, we need all the prayers we can get. Possibly Richard can help with the mark.

Hi John & Joey

Another nice bottle, John!

The mark is Cheng Hua Nian Zhi. Cheng Hua is from the Ming dynasty (1465 - 1488).

For your information.

Regards.

Dear Richard,

     Of course you are correct.
I was comparing to Qing Dynasty reign marks,
and the first character looked like 'Xian' [as in Xianfeng].
But once I compared it to the mark on #7 in "Dragon",
I saw it was Chenghua.
What would we do without you?

Dear John,

If Jews & Christians can unite and support each other to further Ethical Monotheism
and Repairing the World under the Rule of G-D, called 'Tikkun Olam' in Hebrew;
we can beat the anti-Religious Left who want to destroy modern Western Judeo-Christian
Culture by destroying the Family and Capitalism.
Dennis Prager and PragerU, are doing a great job in this regard.
Best to all,
Joey

Richard, thanks for the clarification on the mark. The next bottle is a rare example of children doing the "Dragon Dance". I have not seen any others in underglaze blue. From the Collection of the Blue Dragon Lady [59mm].

John,

You have made the reference to the Blue Dragon Lady a number of times.  How many bottles did she have!?  I do not recall whether you got her items at auction or in an estate sale.  If an estate sale, could you remind me where she lived since I have a bottle or two with her provenance.  Do you know if she was a general oriental collector with a house full antiques or just the snuff bottles?

Charll, the lady lived in Wilmington, Del. and collected everything to do with dragons [especially blue]. There were thousands of items from bottles to jades, silks, paintings and carvings. I bought 33 bottles but there were easily 3x that at my local auction.

The next example is my smallest dragon bottle [51mm]. Even though the bottle is late it shows the fine painting that I would expect from a soft paste bottle. From a small auction in 2013.

John,

   Another stunning, beautiful example.
I love soft paste B & W porcelains.

Dear John, this one is a real beauty. It shouldbe Guangxu, but IMO in the early period.
Very nice.
Kind regards
Giovanni

The next bottle a 4-clawed dragon [75mm] part of a B&W collection from N.Y.C. in 2015.

Dear Giovanni,

    By early Guangxu [reigned 1874 - 1908], do you mean ca.1874 - 1890?
Or say, ca.1874 - 1885?
Best,
Joey

John,

     This bottle looks nice,
but I'm confused as to how to date it.
Best,
Joey
