Hi All

Just happen to come across this new scanner which seems to be very useful for scanning books especially. It can also be used for scanning actual object, something that the normal desktop scanner is unable to achieve.

The details are as follows:

For your reference.

Regards.

Hi Peter

It is a new product and is not available in the retail stores yet.

It can only be purchased online from the same website that showcases the videos.

Regards.

Hi Richard,

Interesting!  I wonder when the first affordable and portable 3D laser scanner will come on the market.

Hi  Richard , All

I found  an  equivalent  type  of  overhead  scanner  in HK

Made  by  Jetion  :  latest  version  ( "2nd  generation" )  : cost HK$ 1,180  =  US$150

The  Xcanex costs  US$300

It's  basically  an overhead  camera  with LED light  which  takes   jpg   color  picture of  an A4  page  of  writing. It  does  not  scan  in  the  sense  of  "moving  across the page"

It's  possible to  put a   snuff bottle  on the  A4  page and   thus   scan  a  3 -D object  as  long as  it's  not too fat ( because   I  guess the   focus of the  camera  is  on the   paper )

Like  all  photo pics  of a  white page of  paper  with writing,  it  comes  out  light  grey  when  you  print  out.

I've  tried  playing   around  with the    picture  editing (  brightness  +35  and  contrast  +35)    and can  turn the  grey  into  almost white.  I need to  do  more  work  and  explore the  software  package  provided .

In summary  :  if  you  want a   quick  pic at average   quality  - e.g  for  record  purposes  or  to send to  someone  by email  on the  forum -   of a  snuff bottle  which is  placed  on a   white  ( or  black , or  any color  ) background  paper  max  A4  size  it's  certainly   somewhat   more  handy than  using a  camera, and  it  folds  up neatly

I'll   give you  more  news  later

Cheers
Peter

PS:  I assume   you  guys   realize you  can make a simple   3-D pic of a  bottle  by using  your  camera in video mode and  rotating the  bottle  by  360  deg
