Superb bottle John.  Great iron red color and the Fu dogs are very cute!

Joey I sent a message to auction house after the sale that I was interested in the bottle and proceeded from there.  According to my calculations about 30% of the bottles in the Dorf Sale were bought in.  That was just my estimate, not the auction house. Enjoy your time in Istanbul and know that we will miss you in San Francisco.  Do you know if Steven is still planning to come?  I sent him an email to the email address noted on this site for him but have not heard back from him.

I have pulled out some of my moulded 9 lions bottles. I believe this reticulated mould [65mm] is much more rare than the others. It has a "Golden Thread" type glaze and comes from a New Jersey auction of what I believe is a former ICSBS members collection in 2006. I bought 33 of the bottles.

Dear John,

Great example. But I'd simply call that a cream glaze.

Hi John

Nice bottle!

I have one that is almost identical to yours.

How high is this bottle? Mine is 65 mm.

Regards,

Richard

Dear Richard,

Very similar, but John's is much more deeply undercut,
producing a clear reticulated bottle.
Yours is more thickly glazed, so the reticulation is less obvious.
I'm torn between which one I prefer.
Probably, I'd want both... Roll Eyes Shocked Grin

Richard, I want to say that your bottle is an rare early mould and the condition is amazing. The glaze appears to be the same and mine is also 65mm. Joey, first Happy Hanuka! Second, Richard's bottle is NOT reticulated as there is no inner bottle.

Dear John,

I had one, somewhere between your's and Richard's
in glazing and in reticulation.
Though in Cinnabar red glaze.
It is #54 in my 1987 Israel Museum Catalogue.
And mine was reticulated, and I think Richard's is, as well.
There are non-reticulated examples with the foo lion dog
design, as well.
Richard, do you feel yours is reticulated, like my #54, or not?
Best,
Joey

Hi Joey

I agreed with John.

My bottle is not reticulated. There is no inner bottle.

For your information.

Regards.

Joey, this reticulated bottle [67mm] from the Hunter Collection is more similar to yours. The heavy glaze does cover up a lot of the detail.

John,

You are correct. I thought that Richard's was also reticulated,
but he says not.

Dear all,
I arrived now at this discussion. I found it strange what said by Joey, that Johnís bottle is more deeply carved (actually, molded) than Richardís one. It is rather the opposite, Richardís bottle is more deeply molded and richly detailed, and although Johnís bottle too is a superb example, I prefer that of Richard, also because it has an older shape (which has been said also by John). But I would be very happy with Johnís bottle😊.
Kind regards
Giovanni

Dear Giovanni,

I was distracted by my belief that Richardís bottle was reticulated.
You are correct of course.
It is more detailed.
Best,
Joey

The next two bottles [64&65mm]appear to come from the same mould but with some differences. The bottle on the right has dirt and debris in the low spots and appears to be reticulated but it is not. From two different auctions in 2010 and 2016.

These two bottles [57mm] appear to come from the same mould but there are differences, especially in photo #3. Both are fully reticulated but show no wear or use at all. From two different auctions in 2006 and 2009.

This example [68mm] is from a completely different mould. It still shows nice detail. From an auction in 2004.
