Joey, the inside of the neck is slightly tapered so I would say that is was NOT originally a snuff bottle. The next bottle [81mm] again features precious objects, very similar to the bottle I posted in the underglaze red section. From a small auction in 2015.

Dear Joey, thank you very much!! That means that they are not easy to find.
I do not have the top lid, but who knows if they had it or were just on display that way?
Kind regards
Giovanni

Dear Giovanni,

Wonderful! In all my years of collecting,
I've never seen one of these for sale.
Do you have the top half of the box?
Best,
Joey

Hi John

I refer to the previous bottle with the sign Zhao Jia Lou (the mansion of the Zhao family).

This is a story from the Chinese opera in the Henan province.

Jigong,
a monk during the Southern Song dynasty was well-known for being able to perform miracles and uphold justice for the commoners.

In this episode, it shows how he tricked the villain Hua Yun Long, a notorious thief, and captured him with the help of his disciples when he sneaked into the Zhao family.

For your reference.

Regards,

Richard

Thanks Joey!

The name of the character on the bottle is Chen Dong.

Just to add, the six corrupt officials were the historical background for the famous Chinese classical novel, The Water Margin aka All Men are Brothers/Outlaws of the Marsh.

They were the main cause of the uprising of the peasants who eventually became outlaws at Liang Mountain.

For your reference.

Regards,

Richard

Dear all,
I believe that everybody of you knows the first picture below, from “Snuff bottles from China - The Victoria and Albert Museum collection” by Helen White.
Well, I have found a bottle in its original box like the ones seen in that picture: see the following pictures.
The bottle is more described in detail in my online collection, where you can enlarge the pictures and where it is compared with the other one of the same type that I have:
 https://www.xipangu.co.uk/mangialupo/?product=c48-a-very-fine-whish-for-many-children-snuff-bottle-and-original-box
Once you are there, remember to have a look also at the last four bottles in the ceramic group, which were not posted here.
Kind regards
Giovanni

John,

I love the horses and what looks like a weeping willow.
Best,

Dear John,

The painting on this example seems to me much finer,
but I wonder if it is not a miniature vase with a stopper added.
I'm amazed they could get a 6 character Yongzheng mark on
that tiny foot.
Best,
Joey
