Title: What's it made of? Post by: MingWu on November 17, 2021, 11:31:12 am Hello All,
Does anyone know what's this snuff bottle made of? It looks like dye to me. Not sure it's made of stone or other material. Thanks everyone. Ming Title: Re: What's it made of? If it is a white chip, could this be stained magnesite? Cheers, Rube Title: Re: What's it made of? Post by: MingWu on November 17, 2021, 10:21:06 pm Thanks George & Rube.
It's white with little blue color. Ming Title: Re: What's it made of? Post by: George on November 18, 2021, 01:20:54 am George, If it is a white chip, could this be stained magnesite? Cheers, Rube Magnesite is usually dyed to imitate turquoise.. Same with howlite. I wonder if it could be sodalite, and that chip just happens to be in a calcite area. Thanks for bringing up Sodalite. I always thought any blue mineral to be Lapis Lazuli until your mention. This bottle looks to be duller than the standard Lapis. Well carved mask. Post by: Joey on November 19, 2021, 07:34:46 am In the 1970s I had a Sodalite bottle made up of 2 pieces with the connecting part [sides, foot and neck] made of mother of pearl.
And the front and reverse panels were each decorated in 'Pietra Dura' inlay of elegant Chinese ladies in a garden scene. Best, Joey |
