I bought these bottles at an auction. They were listed as silver snuff bottles, but I'm not so sure. They look like silver victorian perfume bottles to me, but then they do have the little scoopers so I don't know. Can someone please help me identify these?

Thank you so much!

I just do not know enough about perfume containers like this to give you a value..

I do think they are extra unique as perfume/scent bottles go..

If they were listed as "silver", are they in fact solid silver, or plated.. Is there a makers mark and or a silver mark.. Like .925 or something ..

Heather,

I would say these are definitely Victorian, or at least European of the same vintage. If they did not have the scoop-like spoons I would also have jumped to the conclusion that they are scent bottles. I suspect these two examples may actually be for some kind of other powdered substance, if not actually snuff. There is no reason why a snuff user should not have preferred the concept of a Chinese method of storing the powder over the traditional snuff box, while retaining the look and feel of the Western silver box.
