Got caught up in the moment when I saw this.. Made a super low offer and was accepted, so pleased with it.. Although completely a different type of snuff container than what I normally collect !

Interesting and different.. 

I can not figure out a possible origin though. 

Any ideas guys ?

Would need to see the bottom, but it looks like a convert high caliber shell casing to me.  Charll

That is what my first thought was as well Charll.. !

There were no pics of the bottom, so will be able to tell if it is once it arrives.

Since it is 3 " total to top of stopper.. Looks like it could be 2 1/4" shell casing..  Not sure what caliber that would make it, but it would be fairly significant..

The rim at the head of the shell is similar to some Indian War Period casings I am seeing.. Just not finding one this large so far..  I know very little of older ammunitions. Still looking..

Wonder if this was Civil War or earlier snuff container ?

  It looks like a converted shell to me as well. The top makes me think Thai or that area, for some reason (a Stupa top?).
Very interesting, in any event.
