Charll,
This is sort of like the blind leading the lame, but here goes:
I am attempting to translate the characters I recognise, right to left, top to bottom in each line.
first line: top two characters - pure ('qing') water
second line: bottom character - day
third line: middle character - mountain ('shan')
last line: I'm no help - sorry
Best, Joey

haha.. makes me realize how much we rely on the Chinese readers and speakers here.  You did better than me Joey!  Only one more I can venture to guess is Yuan (garden) after Shan...

Charll

How big is this in diameter? I am amazed that the calligraphy is still so legible.

Thanks Pat,

Nice one! Charll.

It really could be a Yongzhen Period plate, the blue color is right for that period , and normally the figure is samller than Kangxi and Qianlong period.

The inscript is a Poem" 渭水投竿日,歧山入梦晨"(wei shui tou gan ri,qi san ru meng chen)

Which is a story about 姜子牙(jiang ziya) who is a great politician, but was not being put in an important position, so he go fishing everyday by doing nothing, but even strange, he was using a fishing pole without any hook and bait, people asked him? how can get a fish without a bait and hook, he said that the fish will jump out if it wants.

after month, the rumor( news) was spread to the  佐文王 who is the King, he himself go to 姜子牙(jiang ziya)and invite him to build up and manage the country for him. So that mean 佐文王 is the real big fish.Smiley

To all and especially Steven,

Once again thank you for the translation, and particularly the additional commentary/story behind the poem as provided by Steven.  This additional insight into the Chinese culture is much appreciated and cherished.

Hi Steven

Just chance upon this thread.

I think the king mentioned should be Zhou wenwang (周文王) who is the founder of the Zhou Dynasty.

Regards.

Richard
