George, are they male or female, or one of each? What measurements should each head be?
I have a friend here in Israel, who might be able to copy them for you.

Good question !

The figure with the staff is male..

The elephant should be a female..

I am not planning on spending a lot of money on the stoppers. Will just patiently wait for them to pop up for auction...

Not so sure a modern copy would match up well to what appear to be aged bottles ..

I think both of them should be male.

See the bottles I have,

Hmmm...

I sort of thought that the green cross hatched carved area on top was that of the shoulders for a female...

Although...... It seems like it is always the male rider on elephant bottle that is facing to the left ( from the back view ) like my bottle, yours and others I have seen..

Maybe you are correct Steven !

George, They are both 1950s at earliest, to 1970s at latest, and from Kyoto Japan. So, 40-60 years old. I guess that is aged, though I'd not be pleased if I was described as aged, and I'm 55, right in the middle. ;-)

George, Not a guess; I knew a man, Victor Topper, from Toronto, who bought a pair of the figures on horses directly from the carver in Kyoto in 1969.
I received a pair of  standing figural snuff bottles from my late parents as a Bar Mitzva gift, and later bought a pair of late 19th C. ones at an estate auction in 1972, that had been bought or received in China by a Christian missionary who brought the pair back to Canada in the late 19th C. (so we know they were at least made by late 1896, since by early 1897, the bottles were in Canada).
   Best, Joey
