I was told that this bottle was painted by Li Guyue, a student of Wang Qian at Shimen, in the Sping of 1993 (Guiyuo).  Where or what is Shimen?  I cannot find the gui-you mark on the bottle, and I need help with the balance of the Chinese script.

For those that can read Chinese, conformation on the artist name, year, and what the rest of the script reads would be greatly appreciated.

Artist: Li Guyue, painted Spring 1993

Inside Painted Snuff Bottle-
Font side is of a young lady combing her hair with an attendant holing a mirror.  Reverse side is of a lady bathing with attendants nearby.   Seal mark in red “yin” or seal.
Height: 7.5 cm or 3 inches with stopper and 6.5 cm or 2.56 inches without stopper

Thanks for the help, Charll

 Where or what is Shimen?

I found this via Wikipedia ...

Shimen District (Chinese: 石門區; pinyin: Shímén Qū) is a sparsely-populated rural district in the northern part of New Taipei City in northern Republic of China (Taiwan). It is part of the north coast scenic area and includes Taiwan's northernmost point, Cape Fugui.

Charll,
I can make out 'Ming' (the dynasty, not 'The Merciless!') as the first character, top right side on the large inscription.
In same inscription, third line, bottom 2 characters are 'Shimen' in simplified characters.
Sorry, that's all I can make out. Steven or Walter will be much better.

Dear Charll,

What I have checked is as follows;

The first 4 characters 明皇窺浴 mean a famous old painting name painted in 1378.
The picture's english name is "Anonymous PEEPING".
The Second line 4 characters mean "GuiYuo (1993) mid spring".
The last character and the first character of the third line is the artist name 古月 Guiyue.
I do not know where "Shimen" 石門 located. But guess that is area name where "Huayishuan" 華藝軒 located.
Huayishuan seems to be a school where Guyue was working according to a literature included in the Peters DB.

I can not find an exact model painting of the other side. It seems to be a material from Beijing opera.

Cheers,

Misu

Hi  Charll,

This bottle is signed by Guyue(古月),  the  inscription can be read"Ming emperor ( who is the emperor of Tang Dynastic ) peeks while Gui fei( who is one of the wife the emperor love the most) taking a bath. painted in mid spring of  1993 ,by Gu yue at shi men Huayi studio( which Joey was totally right)

I am not sure where exactly the shimen is, since there are several places called shimen, one in hu nan , one in guang zhou.

The reversed size can be read" Gui fei looking at mirror"

Thanks to all for your for the help, and Steven for the summary of everyone's input.

Steven, no reference to artist Wang Qian in the Chinese script?  I was told his name was on the bottle.  Regardless, Li Guyue is either a pen name or possible student of Wang Qian.

Thanks again, Charll

Hi Charll,

You were told its painted by Li guyue, one of Wang qian's students, because Wang qian is a great master now, and Li Gu yue is not, But I believe that Li is wang qian's student..

This is a link to Wang qian's bottle..

Steven, are BOTH bottles by Wang Qian? I thought the one on the left, with fish on the reverse,  had much better painting and calligraphy. The one on the right looked like it was copying Yan Yutian.

Sorry Joey,

I made a mistake, both are not painted by wang qian Embarrassed

The left one is painted by another wxs's great student huang san, the right one painted by Da hua, also a good painter of Ji school.

And Joey, I think you are right that the right one is copying Yan Yutian 's bottle. but Yan's bottle is more colorful than that.

Thank you, Steven. I understand now. But the one on the left is still very nice indeed.
