Sure, George. Chips on the rim which have been ground off, leaving a beveled looking edge.
It can be a sign the bottle is old, or a way to make it look older.
YF Yang taught me that the collar of the bottle, glued to and under the stopper, should ALWAYS be a mm. on each side LARGER than the neck of the bottle. That way, if the bottle tips over, the first thing to impact the harder surface, and therefore absorb most of the damage, will be the collar, and not the bottle.

So it has likely depreciated any value quite a bit ?

It depends on the bottle, and age and quality of the repair, from what I have been told.  But yes, most often the value is depreciated.  Hey, all collections will all have repaired bottle or two, some more that others.

George,

This is really a nifty looking bottle.  A black glass bottle that is carved and/or with such a heavy enameled surface that the landscape mountains and trees are actually 3D.  But, look at how the neck is that flare out to the top and the beveled outside lip on the mouth.  This is a glass enameled bottle that is post 2000.   Outside beveling I would suggest was done to reduce chipping of the glass along the lip of the mouth and also to speed up the finishing process.

I'll replace the pictures with better quality ones later when I catalog this bottle.  Charll

Thanks Charll...

This bottle should be here tomorrow.

What is odd, is that the bottle itself is so nicely carved, sanded and polished,  and then this lip is so poorly ground down in comparison.

Although this one was listed as glass, I am hoping for a pleasant surprise.. It has signs of being amethyst. If so, it is was carved from a super nice chunk of amethyst.

Will know for sure tomorrow !

I am pretty darn excited.. Will post more pics, and share what I learned later today..

Can't get to the post office for a few hours..

It is sure amazing what we can stumble upon while "going on the hunt" for snuff bottles !

Ok guys...

This is a Henry William Stiegel diamond pattern, mold blown, amethyst flask..

These types of wares were produced in Stiegel's Manheim, Pennsylvania, glass-houses, c. 1765-74.

As for the beveling.. Common for these flasks.

Now for the exciting part..

These bottles can be found online at prices that start at 4000.00 and as high as 7000.00 !  Grin  Yep.., that is the smile on my face !

No, I know that Joey..

That was the discovery that I made.. It is a Henry William Stiegel Flask.

I stumbled upon it while "going on the hunt" for snuff bottles.. I knew even then that it was not a snuff bottle, and thought possibly a scent type bottle..

Just discovered what it really is..

No, I have no interest in keeping this one.. , and yes, just the thought of potentially being able to add more snuff bottles is more excitement than I can handle today !

Still can not believe I stumbled into this one !

Checking further this is not a "Stiegel" flask....  Undecided

Although it is mold blown, it was blown into a two piece, or split mold as compared to being blown into a one piece mold.  I am told that a fair description for it could be a Stiegel "style" flask.

Still trying to figure out just exactly who may have made this.., but for now, this is a dead topic, and it's back to snuff bottles !

I should have ran to the bank a little faster !  Cheesy

George, There is a saying in Arabic, "Yom Asal, Yom Basal". It translates as "One Day Honey, One Day Onions"  - it rhymes in Arabic ;-). It means, one day you earn a lot, one day you earn a little.
How much is it worth as 'in the style of'?
Good Luck, Joey

I have no idea, but at least with this additional information, it may do well even on eBay..

Thinking will take a shot via eBay, and let the chips fall where they may !
