Hi all!   This is a continuing exercise on becoming more proficient on the use of the forum site.

Today I started the photo documentation of a portion of my collection and practicing posting of my own pics.  Attached is a very modern inside painted bottle of ‘Mulan’(?).  It is 2 1/2 inches high (6.4 cm) without the stopper. The colors and painting are much more vibrant in person.  Picked it up a few years ago, painted at the Ji School (?)(i.e., bottom etched Xisan), but have no other information on the bottle.  Can anyone help with the artist and date? This is one of four Mulan bottles I have, 2 porcelain designs, one enamel design, and this IPB.  Any information and artist ID would be much appreciated.

I can't help with the script, and may be mistaken, but I don't think this one is signed..

By the way.. I sent pics of script and signature for your goose bottle to someone.. They replied today and asked to resend the pics as he could not open the ones I first sent.

I may hear back from him yet tonight..  Smiley

All, again this is an exercise and allowed me to post what I consider is a beautiful bottle.  My written record on this bottle was lost.  In searching some old emails I may have answered my own question.  I believe it was painted in 2006.  The artist is Zhao Zhi Yun who is married to one of my favorite artists Du Qing Tao.  Any comments on the bottle and/or conformation is welcomed.  I also think I was just trying to chime in on the warrior theme here.

Hi Charll,

Very nice bottle, I think that there is a "Bing Xu" date for 2006 in the second column from the left.  If you can get a better picture of the leftmost column (shot from a little more above), maybe we can decipher those charcters.  They could be a designation of the month of production or possibly a signature?

Hi Steven,

Definitely 2006 as the bottom has a "Xisan" etched on it.

Does anyone know if there any detailed lists of Ji school artists?

I thought I had translated the script of the bottle, date 2007, "double gooses" and "snow gooses" for each sides.

Hi

1. The  Mulan bottle  is  signed  with the  pen name  Xin (=  heart) Yun ( cloud)   so it  could  indeed  be   Zhao  Zhi  Yun,
    as  Charll  suspects

ZZY  is cited   in CIPMA  ( but  CIPMA  does  not mention any pen name for her)

2. The   beautiful   geese  bottle  is   signed  with the  pen name : Dong ( winter) Yue (month) .

The  only  other  bottle  by  Dong Yue  I have  seen is  owned  by  Bill  Patrick  www.snuffbottlecollecor.com
     It's a   panda  scene.

Bill  bought  nearly  all his   VMIPBs  from  Hengshui  so    I think  we can assume   Dong Yue  (  = pen  name)
was  a  minor   Ji school   artist  who  flourished  briefly  then  faded,  or else  he  is  still  going   under  his
real name  - whatever  that  is - and he  just used  "Dong Yue"  for  his  early bottles

3. Yes  there   are  definitive  lists  of   Ji school  artists.    CIPMA  includes 90%  of  all the  major  ones
and  about   50 %  of the minor  ones  at the  time CIPMA  was  published

My  data  base   goes  much  further  and   includes  99%  of  all  major  Ji artists  and   about  70%  of the
minor  Ji  artists  since   2000,  especially  the  recent  up-coming  ones   in the  past 5 years

Cheers  Peter

Wonderful information!  Thanks to all that contributed to the ID of these bottles.  It gives me the background I needed and helps in the pursuit of more information on the artists that painted them.  Very appreciative.
