I've always appreciated Japanese 'Ginbari' foil cloisonné work even though it is a 20th century innovation.  Stippled design foils are wrapped and/or colored stippled foils are clued in a tapestry design onto a brass or copper body.  They often have very limited wire work which is only used to partition major changes in design elements.  In the case, on the illustrated bottle the outer border of the medallions is the only wired area.  Transparent and/or translucent enamels are used over the foil to create a great effect.

Contemporary Japanese Cloisonné Snuff Bottle:
Small Japanese foil cloisonné enamel snuff bottle showing panels of a goldfish and flowers surrounded by an emerald green floral foiled design on a copper body.  Deep blue glass cabochon stopper with a white button collar and bone spoon.  Height is 2 1/8 inches or 5.3 cm without the stopper.

Period: ca. 20th century

Thought I would share this variation on cloisonné designs in a snuff bottle form.  Charll

Dear Charll,

I've never seen this type of work before.
Thank you.
But on the reverse, is that not the tail of a goldfish we see in the top lefthand quadrant of the central medallion?
Say at 10:00-11:00, if it was a watch-face.
Best,
joey
