Hello,
This week I bought a new SB to my collection, I liked the stile and work, and it was "very cheap".I'm thinking that it would be from 1960 in my opinión. The seller said that the item was made on bone, but I saw strage lines like Ivory elephant and I bought it. After having it on my hand during several minutes, I notice that the item was made on other kind of ivory.
Could you tell me if are you agree with me that it is made on wild pig ivory?

Thanks,
Albert.

Dear Albert,

I'm sorry - I don't know what wild boar ivory looks like.
Can you find a photo of the grain of a piece of it, so we can compare?
Best,
Joey

Dear Jason,

I have taken in acount the walrus, because in the center is showed a small part looks like Secundary dentine; but due the shape of the growing lines I'm thinking that it is wild boar.

Dear Joey,

I have found the perfect picture to show the wild boar ivory.

On the other hand, are you agree with the age of the item?

Best,
Albert.

Here you can see other kinds of ivory (Walrus, wild boar and hippo), but their visualisation can change with the age, spice and the part of the tusk.

Best,
Albert.

Dear Albert,

Wonderful work comparing the different types of ivory.
I'm sorry, I got distracted trying to figure out the type of ivory. I would say, ca. 1950-1990.

It is very hard to pin down a bottle to a year, unless it is definitely signed and dated and one can trust the signature and date. Like a modern IPSB bought directly from the artist.

Or in one case in my collection, where a businessman from Chicago, on a trip to Beijing, had bought a bottle directly from the Ye Family in 1926. He had written about the purchase in his journal, and the journal and IPSB were both inherited by a close relative of his, who sold the bottle to Clare Chu. Who sold it to me.

And I subsequently discovered that the original buyer's relative is actually a distant relative of mine, as well! Small world.

Best,
Joey
