Hi Again,

Here's another bottle I'd like to share, and hopefully get some help with it's translation:
It's glass, and signed Yong Shoutian, and measures 3 3/8" w/o bead stopper with walrus ivory stopper.
I'm assuming it's from Dream of the Red Chamber because of the man in the tree?

Thanks for any assistance,

Rube.

I had a bottle with the same scene showing these three court ladies by a stream..

The one side shows three court ladies "that I guessed" to be painted at the same waterfall/stream as the other scene on my bottle which is from a painting by Ma Yuan called, "Scholar by a Waterfall." Have seen it also called, "Watching the Deer by a Pine Shaded Stream"

Maybe there is a connection for the other scenes on your bottle, and then again, I may be completely off with the guess for my bottle.

Hopefully this will help...

Just to add..

I thought the man hiding in the tree could be Fu Lian from Strange Stores Chinese Studio.

But Steven mentioned that there is a character who looks like Fu Liang hiding in a tree but is from another story, "神女" Shen nv , or Goddess.

Hope these last two posts are helping and not confusing or completely wrong Smiley

What is the scene on the fourth panel ?

Dear Rube,

This is another IPSB that needs a better stopper and no spoon.
Please send me the same measurements for this one, and the colouring/material you'd like, and I'll go through my stoppers box again.
Best,
Joey

George,

Thanks for the information!  I'm sorry I don't know why I didn't photograph the fourth side, I think I photographed one side twice, by accident.

Joey,

I appreciate your offer, and agree with you, however, it's not my bottle to change.

Cheers,

Rube.

Dear Rube,

Is it your brother's? If so, ask him if he would like a better stopper.
If he would, send me the info, and I'll get a few stoppers and a cork organised and bring to Baltimore.
Best,
Joey

Joey,

You're too kind!  It's not, but I know he needs help with a few others.  I'll DM you the details.

Thanks again,

Rube.

Dear Rube,

     My pleasure.

    YF Yang of blessed memory always helped me with my stoppering, so I am just passing on his 'mitzva' [good deed]; and he even taught me how to fit corks [they used to be tapered; a tapered cork only 'grasps' at the top; a cylindrical cork 'grasps' along its whole length]. If someone picks up a bottle by the stopper {NOT recommended, but done, especially by non-collectors; I warn any friends or family beforehand ONLY to pick up by the bottle}

He taught me to match the narrow end to the opening, and sand down the wider end till the cork was cylindrical and not tapered;  .].
As well, he taught me to use a large safety pin to make the hole for the spoon, and push it through only half way, and then push it through from the other direction all the way; that way, one doesn't break off a piece at one end of the spoon-hole.
Best,
Joey

Dear Joey,
Great tips, from a great man. I had to learn them the hard way - by trial and error.
Best,
Tom
