"Magpies and Plum Blossoms"
3.25" tall (without stopper) and 1.125" wide.

This one is very similar to one that Bonhams auctioned off two years ago, though this one is bigger according to the dimensions on the auction page.

Not sure if Chinese magpies are as protective as Australian magpies, but if so I'm sure there's a lot of ducking and covering going on in China right now.

In Ireland,  there are beaucoup magpies, and I've never heard of any attacking anyone. They must have imported aggressive 'convict' magpies to Oz...  Roll Eyes Shocked Grin

Dear Brian,
I have the same bottle. Not only that, I have also a Yixing teapot with the same decoration. Here you see them. The only difference is that the base of my bottle is green glazed while your one is white glazed.
Dear Joey, you are right, the Australian one is not the magpie as we know it. The Australian magpie is even not of the same family of the Eurasian magpie.
The real magpie, I mean the magpie for the Chinese, is the same bird that we see here in Europe, the Pica Pica to be precise, and it is not a swooping bird. It is the cleverest of our birds. I know that because one of my past hobbies was naturalist photography and I have seen incredible things about magpies, they are really clever.
Kind regards
Giovanni

Giovanni,

Wow, that's a beautiful teapot. I've never seen it in the same pattern before. I'll have to keep an eye out for that. I really love this pattern. Love the colors.

I didn't know that the Chinese magpie was a completely different bird. Interesting. Less dangerous too!

Dear Brian,

Thankfully, the Australian Magpie is limited to Australia.

The 'Chinese' Magpie, as you describe it, is actually, simply 'the Magpie', and common from Ireland in the West, to Japan in the East, across the whole Euro-Asian landmass.
Best,
Joey
