Does anyone know if you can visit the dealer room without having a paid registration to the conference? I'm a ICSBS member, btw.

Hi Brian,

Although I've been an ICSBS member for 20 years, I've never been to a convention, so don't know the "rules". One of the forum members who attends them may be able to answer you. Personally, I think not, since the dealers' room is specifically set up for conventioneers.

That's what I was thinking, I just wanted to know for sure. I'd love to attend the convention as it sounds like quite the experience, but $795 to walk around a dealer's room doesn't work for me.

Brian,

You could try picking up the contact details of the dealers that will be exhibiting, and make arrangements to see them immediately after the convention with a view to purchasing unsold stock. I can't imagine any dealer refusing such an offer.

Brian,

I've attended a few ICSBS conventions and you generally have to have a "name tag" to get into the dealers room.  Much of the time there are security personal at the door looking to see that you have the appropriate name tag around your neck as you enter the room.   However, I have seen ICSBS member non-convention participants allowed in the dealers room, as well as the general public that were trying to get some information on a bottle they they owned from the dealers.  As a member I would think you would surely be allowed into the dealers room (its a benefit as a member), but would likely need to get a pass or name tag from the meeting reception desk.

Charll,

It's nice to hear from you.  With all the wildfires in California, I've been thinking about you... glad you're ok.

Cheers,

Rube.

Dear Brian,

Are you referring to the 2019 Milwaukee Con, or to Baltimore this year?
In any event, I'm on the board of directors, and I can get you in to the Dealers' Room at the convention as my guest.

By arrangement with Berthe Ford, any Convention attendee can escort a guest into the Dealers' Room, w/o problem.

I escorted Curt [Lamlam] in Hong Kong, in 2014 {after which he graciously treated me to TWO feasts: Dimsum at the restaurant in the Peninsula Hotel, and he brought 30 or 40 bottles for me to view, between courses! Grin}.

You don't have to be so generous [though I DO love roast duck and roast goose, as many on the Forum can testify].... Roll Eyes Shocked Grin
But seriously, you, or anyone else on the Forum who is not going to attend a convention, but would like to visit the Dealers' Room, is welcome to call me, and I'll be happy to facilitate it, with OR without food. And I'm also happy to host...

Best,
Joey

Hi Joey,

Thanks so much. I really appreciate the very generous offer. Not sure if I'll be able to make it or not. While my summer's are usually wide open, once my school year starts—I'm a professor at Marquette University—it can be difficult to travel with my fixed schedule. Just found out that I will be away the following week at an academic conference in FL, so I have already cancelled class for that particular week. I can't do much of that obviously.

So Milwaukee in 2019? Are you pulling my leg? If it's actually in Milwaukee next year then I'll definitely be there and I'll do my best to find the best roast duck in town. Smiley We actually have some very good restaurants here.

Dear Brian,

     What do you teach?

  Re.Milwaukee.
WHOOPS! Me bad. Sorry. Roll Eyes Shocked Grin
I meant Minneapolis. When I wrote it, I was tired, and I used to have friends in Milwaukee, Aaron & Anita Tilton both of blessed memory [but crappy snuff bottles!], and accidentally got the two confused

Our system is West Coast, East Coast, Centre [I'm born in Canada; we spell according to Her Majesty The Queen's Usage], Overseas.
2015 was in Chicago.
2016 was in LA.
2017 was in London, UK.
2018 will be in Baltimore, MD.
2019 will be in Minneapolis, MN.
2020 will be in Taipei, Taiwan [ROC].

Checking, I see you are 5 hrs. driving or 1 hr. flight, away.
We are planning it for early in the Autumn, so we don't have to all pack snowshoes...
Best,
Joey

Hi Joey,

I teach marketing in the business school. I'm a relatively recent addition to the school (4 years ago), go up for tenure in a couple years. My main research areas are retailing and consumer collecting behavior. I love understanding what makes us obsessives function. Smiley

Ya, I thought Milwaukee sounded too good to be true, but Minneapolis isn't too far away. I'll definitely put that in my plans for next year.

Dear Brian,

I think we already have dates scheduled for the Minneapolis Convention.
I will get them for you.
Best,
Joey
