I don't often add bottles to my collection but I added this one because it was not expensive and I thought I had seen similar designs in books (and it has birds (swallows) on it)

I found the following similar but rather better painted bottle on page 41 of Chinese Inside Painting of the Modern Age. It also has an almost identical text, except for the first character

What does the text say?
Does anyone know anything about Le San?

Thanks for your help
Geoff

Hi Geoff :

Very nice bottle

The Chinese words basically says...... "painted in "Blue Cloud" Studio underneath its East side window...... Le San"

Unusual colours used by him...... the brighter green vase and a more vibrant hue of blue for the taller vase.

Congratulations

Thanks for the translation and comments Pin.

Unfortunately no date, and not much closer on who Le San is (or maybe was). The auction house called him Zhu Lesan so maybe they know more than I do - I'll ask.
I'm sure I've seen bottles like this one elsewhere, maybe even on this site.

Hi Geoff,

I was looking at that bottle, too, but wasn't sure enough about Le San's work to bid.  I love the birds, but had never seen a still life by him.

Regarding his identity, somewhere on this Forum is much discussion about him, and somebody has a theory (maybe Pat?) that Le San and
Bi Rongjui are one and the same.

Congrats,

Rube.
