From Peters Data Base:

JING  SCHOOL :

The   four schools  of Inside Paintings  all derived  from   Beijing. The   Jing  School is therefore the  oldest    School. Beijing was the  capital  of the  Ming and  Qing  Dynasties during  which the   art  of  inside  painting  was developed :  pictures,  descriptions/ dates, and  seals . The  great  Early and  Middle period artists  of the  late  19th/ early   20th  Century all belonged to the  Jing  School, eg  Zhou Leyuan, Ma  Shaoxuan and  Ye  Zhongshan.   Liu  Shouben  is considered as  the   Founder  of the  Modern Jing  School.

LU SCHOOL :

The  Lu  School  started  in Bo Shan,  Shandong Province  by Bi Rongjiu  who   moved to  Bo Shan  from Beijing  in  1890.  The Founder  of the  Modern   Lu School is considered to  be Li  Kechang. More  recently   the  head  of this  school has been  Zhang  Guanqing.   The  Lu School  is now  mostly based  in Zibo.

JI SCHOOL

The  Ji  School  was   founded  much later in the  1960’s  by  the    Grand  Master  of the  Modern  School  - Wang Xisan  and  is  based  primarily  in  Hengshui, Hebei  Province, and  a few neighboring   cities, principally Shijiazhuang.  By far  the  great  majority  of  Modern  artist  belong to this  School  and  most   Westerners  coming  across   inside painting  bottles  for the  first  time are likely to   see a  Ji  School bottle, whether  it is painted  by a  true  artist, or  whether  it is a   cheap  tourist-quality   version, because the  Ji  School  style of   Modern painting  is  the most  universally  liked  both  within China and  abroad .

The  main  characteristics   of  Ji School   inside-painting  are   that they are :

-   based  on the skills and  art forms of  traditional  Chinese  canvas paintings
-   use  freehand  brush stroke techniques
-   specialize  in portraits, human   figures, landscapes,  flowers, birds, insects, animals and  calligraphy
-   in recent  years ( since  about  1990)  have  evolved a  number of  semi-abstract
painting styles

YUE SCHOOL   :

The Yue  School  is   the  youngest and  least  well-known.   It is   based  in Shantou  on the  south  coast  Guangdong  Province.  This   School  was  founded  more-or-less  independently of the other  Schools  by  Wu Songling in the  early  1970’s,  and  is  noted  for  its    beautiful  colors and  highly  decorative  style.

To  give   credit   where  it is  due,  I plagiarized most  of this   from  other  sources !

There  are  no  specific seals  for  any of the   schools

Only  artists  have  individual  seals,  and  usually they  use  several  different   seals ,  so  seals  are not  a  good  guide even  for   artists
