Hello,

It has been quiet for a while,  Smiley Since Rube mentioned master Li Yingtao, I think it might be a perfect timing to introduce some of his masterpieces to the Forum.

Master Li's painting style is very unique, he not only applied some of traditional painting techniques slashing colors into his inside painting, also apply lots of western painting techniques which makes his painting very delicate texture and very strong visual impact.

The pictures are better than thousands words, I will let you all have your comments.

Cheers and enjoy!

Steven

Beautiful paintings Steven..

When I compared to some of his that are illustrated within "The New Look", really quite different..

Aesthetically, certainly a style completely his own.. I especially like the last bottle shared.. !

Hi  All

These  bottles  by Li Yingtao  are  the  same  wonderful style   that  I saw  in 2014  when the  ICSBS  annual  convention  visited  Zhang Tieshan's new  studio  in Xian .

According  to what I heard,  Li  Yingtao  was the  first "serious" (and certainly the  most  senior)  Ji  school  artist  to  join  ZTS  at the  new  Qin  school.

Since  2014  some Ji  artists  who moved to  Xian   in 2012-2103  have returned  to  Shijiazhuang  or  Hengshui (e.g. Song Yiming, Ma Baoku) but  as  far  as  know  Li Yingtao  is  still  in Xian

I wanted  to  buy  one of his  bottles  in 2014  but the  official  price  was  too  high for me

Cheers

Peter

Dear George,

Yes, His painting style has been changed dramatically , now he is pretty much focus on the painting of his own style which is the serie of louts flowers and birds.  He will also paint some landscape once a while.

Dear Peter,

You are absolutely right about the Li Yingtao. If you are still interested in his bottle, I  might be able to connect you guys together.

Best,

Steven

George,

There are a few examples of Li Yingtao's fine work on Bill's site, as well.

Cheers,

Rube.

These are really interesting and quite amazing bottles Steven.

As you mention in your introduction, the painting style of mixing colours gives a strong visual impact and a style which I don't think I've ever seen before on inside-painted bottles. While it's quite easy to mix colours like this on a canvas or in watercolour on paper, I don't know how he can do it inside painting on glass, certainly not with this degree of control.

It's surely quite unique - are there any other artists who can do this?  Like Peter, I would be interested in buying but I suspect the price would be too high.

When did he start painting in this style? His bottles do not appear in Chinese Inside Painting of the Modern Age.

Geoff

Master Lee is quite a chatty and funny guy.... I met him once in Singapore and he told us that his tools for painting include his wife hair blower sometime... (trying to fixed the effect of the running water by drying it faster....  Grin)

The bird is a Kingfisher Rube.... their bright blue feathers are sometime used to decorate hair pin in olden days... Chinese is 翠鸟

This type of jewelry was called 'Fei Tsui', and it was metal with pieces of Kingfisher feather glued on. In 1978, I bought about a dozen examples for about US$100-150 total (10-12 USD each). Today they are much more expensive, when you can find them.
