I'm in London, but as much as I wanted to attend I can't make it this year - snuff bottle fund doesn't really stretch that far at the moment - what with buying bottles themselves and buying a place in London, so alas I'm not going. There's always another year and I assume I'll be collecting these antiques for a long time to come!

Hope it's a great conference for everyone and will look forward to the next ICSBS journal.

Best

Hi Jo,

Glad to hear you had a fabulous convention.

Like Luke I would have loved to have been there as I'm only an hour and a half away but ended up not being able to find the time. Maybe us UK based collectors should try and meet up as a poor substitute.

Regards, Adrian.

Great idea Adrian!

I am in London once or twice each year, so maybe I can join in this substitute convention.

Hi Tom,

If you are ever in London and have some free time I would always be happy to meet.

As you are the only one to comment it might be a somewhat subdued affair  Grin

Regards, Adrian.

Guys,
this time I may help a little.
A British friend from Gotheborg, knowing that I am interested in snuff bottles, has sent me some pictures he took at Sotheby's last week.
Now, sionce Joey told me that the exhibition of the ICSBS was at Bonahms, he may have been wrong with the place. Dear Joey, can you confirm?
Well, here are the pictures, enjoy!

The rest of pictures.
The bottles are small because of the width of the image. If someone want to see a bottle more in detil, I could post a single image a bit bigger.

Dear Giovanni,

Please ask your friend what he was drinking!  Roll Eyes Shocked Grin
These photos were taken at Christie's, St. James's, NOT at Sotheby's.

And he missed the 'best' bottles of the exhibit, at Bonham's.  Roll Eyes Cheesy
My 50 bottles, and another 90, were on display, along with vintage (pre-1905) cars which were to be auctioned off before the London to Brighton Veteran Car Ride.

The stands, painted matt white, are Bob Hall's. His wife Lindsay did a magnificent job, artistically setting up the stands, then the bottles, etc.
Without her help, I would have been there 5 or 6 hours, instead of 3, and the display would not have been nearly as well done and esthetically pleasing.

When we were viewing the members' bottles at Christie's, we were able to view today's (7.Nov.) Sale. I bought lot #52, the Jiaqing Imperial Palace Workshops Ivory! Susan Page bid for me.

At Bonham's, next to 2 cases of members' bottles, was a case of auction lots.  I fell in love with 3 Jades, and Susan will again bid on my behalf on Thurs. 9/Nov.

    Best,
Joey

Dear Giovanni,
Thanks for posting these photos - wonderful bottles!

Dear Joey,
Are you referring to the Christie's exhibit when talking of Lindsay Hall's matt white stands? It sounds as if you are, but then you go on to say how much time her efforts saved you - and your bottles were at Bonham's.

I noticed some of the labels. The Nordic Butterfly and Hippo Collections are known to me. But I've never heard of the Grootveld Collection before. And I thought the Heriot Collection was sold off by Bob Hall a year or two ago. (I have a bottle from that sell-off.)

Regards,
Tom

Hi Jason and Luke,

We are the only UK people that post on here but there are other UK members of the forum that don't post and would be welcome to come if they wanted even if they are just starting out.

As it's just 4 then I may have trouble getting one of the major auction houses or dealers to get involved   Cry

I can't speak for Jason but I would be happy to come to London as I haven't seen any of the snuff bottles in museums there which could be something to do as well as meet and have a look at our bottles.

Regards, Adrian.

Yes, it may bring some hitherto 'silent' forum members out of the woodwork. Then there is also 'Mandarin' from Newport, who used to post, but hasn't in a while.

But don't wait for me. I am not scheduled to be in the UK again until next August.

Dear Tom,

Lindsay & Bob Hall and Susan Page did all the setup for the Members' [not for sale] Display, which was located in 2 venues from Mon.30.Oct. to Fri.3.Nov.
The two venues were Bonham's New Bond St. and Christie's in St. James's.
All the stands were Bob's from his numerous shows (Maastricht, NYC, London, Hong Kong, etc.).

Seriously, there were superb bottles there as well. I won't deal with whose bottles are there, and regret that the photos were posted publicly.

I would not want my bottles so posted.
Best,
Joey

Dear Joey,
did I wrong in posting the pictures? Please let me know! If so, I will cancel the post.
I thought that should not be problem, being them exhibited in a public space.
Kind regards
Giovanni
