Hi,

New kid on the block.  I am so addicted to collecting snuff bottles.  They are such wonderful little pieces of artwork, and being an artist myself, I collect the ones I think are pretty, or unique. Rock hunting is a passion also, and so I love the bottles made of stone.

I am sure I will be asking a lot of dumb questions as time goes on, so I apologize in advance for being needy.  This site is great for information, and I have been lurking and learning.  Thanks to everyone.

Hi Kaja,
Welcome to the Forum! I ask dumb questions all the time and get really intelligent answers! I'm from the Midwestern US and trying to make sense of my grandmother's collection. (Incidentally, my grandfather was a geologist and so I have a few mineral bottles myself.)

Cheers,
Rube

Hello and warm welcome aboard Kaja !

Before I became interested in Chinese snuff bottles, I was a lapidary.. It was a direct result of that working with different minerals that lead me to learn about these bottles..

Don't give any question you have a second thought... Ask away !

Thank you all for the welcome.  We live in North Texas, far away from the hurricane, and I look forward to learning about the hobby that has taken a toll on my time and purse.

Welcome from me too Kaja!

You have come to the right place to learn, and mingle with fellow enthusiasts. I too started collecting out of an interest in minerals and rocks. Originally from London, and now live in Bangkok.

I haven't been to Hong Kong for a long while. Are there still plenty of shops round the Ladder St area? Jas.

Hi Jason,

You mean the Lady Street? Yes, there are still plenty of tourist items vending stalls along the street! It's a tourist hotspot! When was the last time you visited HK?

Best,
Samson

Unfortunately about 8/10 years ago, I must try to get back there soon I love  the place. I'm sure the street I was thing about was called Ladder Street, on the Island not far from the escalator to the heights and the snake restraint. Tough as old boots but you have to give it a try when you are there.  Roll Eyes

Regards Jason.

Alright Jason, I finally got you. Sorry for my confusion. Yea, I know which street you're talking about, the one with the rocky stairs, right? I do walk pass there from time to time on my way to Hollywood Road where most antique stores are. Yes, I think there are still some vendors doing business there.

Best,
Samson

That's the one, there were always plenty of shops round there,  by the way is the jade market still going strong.  Next time I visit I will ask your advice on the best places to look. Thanks Jason.

Welcome on board, Kaja.

I am from Singapore. Though not a rock hunter, I am always drawn to minerals and rocks displayed in shops or flea markets . Mineral snuff bottles are among my favorites .

Happy collecting !

Dear Kaja,

Welcome from me as well. I live in Jerusalem Israel, but have a summer home in County Wexford Ireland. I have different collections in each place, so I can indulge my love of snuff bottles wherever I am.  Grin
