Dear Ming,

Unfortunately that bottle is not on display - so many of the museums hide their bottles away.
Here's another reference from Bonhams.

Ours are not as valuable I imagine because they are later dates, but it's another good example of these type of bottles.

PS. I like the poll! Wink

I should have been more precise in my reply Pat..  I think Cathy can be correct with the calligraphy observation, "if" this was painted by Ye Zhongsan the Elder.

I agree with you as well Pat, that it could easily have been painted by one of his sons..

Let's just say everything is possible, but I feel it unlikely.  The fish are not as well painted as and not reflective of the father, nor are the aquatic plants.  In my view,  there is a 90pct plus chance it was done by one of the sons.  The calligraphy is not only hesitant, but not as defined and fine as by Ye the elder.

I know we all look for the possibility of it being the elder when we see 20s/30s/40s bottles, but I don't think so in this case, ...

Dear Pat,

It would be interesting to know when Ye the Elder stopped painting and if his work declined. Anyone have any references on that? There appears to be so much information lost - and what little we have from Ye Benqi's failing memory.
