Hi Cathy, I don't know how others think about it, but if I were you, I wouldn't put a gold chain in it out of fear that the relatively hard chain might cause damage to the jade surface over time (chain is like a saw with smoother edges). I observed that people put in a red string instead, at least it's more a Chinese thing... Roll Eyes

Best,
Samson

Thanks Samson!

I ordered some thin cord and am going to try to string it up properly. At this point I don't know how to tie it but will give it a go!  Wink

Cathy,

Congratulations for the purse-shape jade bottle you just acquired !

The overall from and carvings are really appealing to the eyes ! Could you try to shine some light from behind
one of the faces of the bottle to see if we can see more of the hollowing of the inside
As to the stringing of the bottle , I will like to share one of the agate bottle of mine with the stringing quite well done for my taste ( see picture attached ). No gold chain or gold dust  Cheesy Cheesy

Tom,

Just to clarify, it was not me who did the strings  Cheesy Cheesy They came with the bottle I bought from a Beijing dealer.

The strings could be original with the bottle or designed and fixed by one of the previous owners.

Here are a few photos of my jade purse bottle.  It is approximately 47.6 mm tall without the stopper.  Any ideas of an age range?  Oops... I just noticed there may be a dab of glue on the base!  Thanks   Jo

Jo, that's lovely! It looks lavender and green with a tourmaline top?

I took the liberty of resizing your photos so others can see it

Thanks Cathy.  There is definitely a touch of green shading in the left lower side of the bottle. Thanks for resizing the photos!

Jo, it's a lovely bottle - it looks lavender and green at the bottom. Yours also appears to possibly be jadeite?

Sorry I can't help with the dating, but I think yours is so similar with the serrated top and matching serrated stopper that I would imagine it falls into the same age range.

Neither can I help with dating Jo, but agree with everything Cathy just posted, including it looking like jadeite..

She is a beauty Jo !

Thank you.  I do agree the age must be similar to the beauty Cathy posted.

Greetings Everyone,

I remember this thread from awhile back, and though not jade, but crystal, I'd like to add a purse, or tobacco pouch?
It measures 1 5/8" w/o glass stopper, and has blue silk strings.  All I know is that it's pre 1942, so any help with
dating is appreciated! ( This was from the infamous Mr. Quon, importer for Gumps and friend of my great aunt, so I don't expect it to be too old.)
Also, wondering if anyone can translate the sticker on the face.

Nice bottle Jo, by the way!

Cheers,

Rube.

Dear Rube,

It definitely looks antique to me, so I'd say latest date is 1900.
Earliest? 1820? 1830? The bottle isn't as well hollowed as 18th C. examples, so
say 1820-1900, and you'll not be far off.
Best,
Joey

Dear Rube,

I love the bottle,  lovely shape, nice carving ,Such a small bottle with so many details,  The hollowing is decent if we consider the small size of the bottle.

I think its a little treasure, When I have no clue of the date, I normally fully respect Joey's . 1820-1900 sound perfect ..Smiley

Cheers.
