Dear Members,

I saw this bottle recently sell on eBay. I bid, but did not win. I think it is nicely painted, but a new item due to the shape, painting style, and extreme shine of the glass. Am I correct?

Thank you

Brian

I think the exact same as the 1950's one you shared with me.  And like you say, the shape too..

Hi Brian,

I think this could be much newer. It appears to be painted 'in the spirit of' Suo Zhenhai (the style is a bit off to say 'in the style of'), a talented freestyle landscape painter who was active until his premature demise in 2006.

The bottle's shape and landscape composition are both very similar.

Brian,  I would most certainly agree in the bottle being newer.  Post 1990s or later, likely later.  Quite nice and what I would expect from an advanced student IP bottle.

Thanks Steven for giving Brian the actual date.  This is what I expected.  Charll

Thanks everyone. I speak and read very poor Japanese, so I am usually too lazy to try to find dates on bottles by comparing cyclical dates.

Steven, are they still using cyclical dating on newly painted snuff bottles?

Thank you,

Brian

Dear Brian,

Except for a few bottles painted during the Cultural Revolution, with Yi Jiu Liu Ba (1968) onward to Yi Jiu Qi Ba (1978), IPSBs ALWAYS had cyclical dates, and still do, if they are dated at all (and most quality bottles ARE dated).
Best,
Joey
