Dear all,

Here I present my latest acquisition. A white overlay pink glass bottle. From the recent Barron sale.

Translucent white overlay carved through to the semi-transparent pink ground on both sides with eight horses beside a pine tree and rocky ledges.

Provenance details from Christie's:

Mary Kaufman Collection.
Robert Kleiner, London, 2010.
Ruth and Carl Barron Collection, Belmont, Massachusetts, no. 5079.

Enjoy!

Best,
Samson

Dear Samson,

You know I love this bottle, since we discussed it earlier. The Drs. Kaufman (Mary, born in NYC, and her husband from the UK, were both MDs) were both very good friends of mine (though we agreed to disagree over 'shellfish- the eating of'; till they got deathly ill of bad shellfish, and were off it).

They were educated and savvy, though modest, collectors.
It is a very good provenance, as far as I'm concerned.
Best,
Joey

Congratulations Samson!

I only gave it a quick glance in the auction catalogue, but your photos really bring this bottle to life. The carving is exceptional, right down to the foot rim!

Dear all,

Thank you for your appreciation and compliments! I'm really happy that I got this bottle. Its charming colors have really drawn me, and the translucence of the pink glass as well.

Well, actually it wasn't on my wish list originally. I had my eyes on some other bottles in that sale, but after letting quite a number of bottles pass, when this one came, my intuition just told me "This is it, go for it!". As a result, the bottle found its way to its new home, in Hong Kong, where it will continue its life as a collector's treasure… Smiley

Best to all,
Samson

P.S. You're right Tom, I'm impressed by the carving too. The foot rim is really well done as I can see.

Hi Samson,

Lovely bottle, some colours work together much better than others and pinks with white always look pleasing.

Regards, Adrian.

Love your new bottle.  I have one from Mary Kaufman that it favors. Mine has white horses on blue glass.  I got it from Kleiner a few years ago.  Enjoy your bottle. So Happy you got this one :)tv

Dear Jo,

Thank you! Well I look forward to seeing your bottle with white horses on blue glass as well. That is also a color combination I love! Is the form and style of your bottle similar to mine? Could they even be sister bottles from Dr. Mary Kaufman's collection?

Best,
Samson
