Dear Pin,

Did you write 'Xie Xie Nin'?
Thank you, but 'Xie Xie Ni' would have been fine... 'Nin' makes me feel old. Roll Eyes Grin
And squinting to read the small font, makes me feel older!  Roll Eyes Wink

Journals have arrived...

If everyone who has one coming will please send me your addresses..

I had several addresses already for many members, but last week I lost all of my saved forum messages..

Including several between myself and Pin about a couple of Tie Ming commissioned bottles !

Very disappointing  Tongue

Dear George,

I'm sorry to hear that too. I know the feeling - same thing happened to me on 31.Dec.2016 on my regular email.

This is a good place to post an example of a bottle I wonder if may be ground from a solid piece of artificial rock crystal.  There is even a very convincing natural inclusion across one of the rounded corners.  That combined with the complete lack of any air bubbles made me initially believe this a natural quartz.

But after seeing a bottle from Bill's site ( link below ), I think this could be from artificial rock crystal. If it is artificial, it sure is convincing for quartz.

49 mm with flat base

Here is a comparison bottle from Bill's site..

http://snuffbottlecollector.com/_bottle_making/bottle_2.htm

If you hold the bottle just right you can see the different downward directions that the grinding tool left.

George,

This one is definitely carved from a solid chunk of material!

Natural rock crystal and man-made crystal can be difficult to tell apart. Both have a similar specific gravity and similar hardness. Natural will always have some impurities embedded in the matrix. They may be minute, needing a powerful magnifying glass to detect, but some will always be present. Man-made crystal will be completely free of impurities.

Well they are minute and even a bit difficult at 200X , but there does seem to be some impurities..
