General information about the Site

This Chinese snuff bottle community forum is dedicated to the novice, more experienced, and expert collectors. Topics are intended to cover all aspects and types of bottle collecting. To include trials, tribulations, identifying, researching, and much more.

We also freely pour out our pains of spending money, only to later find that our choice in a bottle was not as we expected ! There is no extra charge for our "pain management" program !

We are also working extra hard towards supporting, and giving well deserved recognition to all new and upcoming student artists of "Very Modern" inside painted bottles.

Among other things, donations help keep the forum free from Google type advertisements, and also make it possible to purchases additional photo hosting MB space.

Forum Bottle In The Spotlight !

Another extra special bottle that our fellow collector Pin shared. The "thousand word" classical text is painted by LI Ruchen with a beautifully shaped bottle of upright rectangular form, and sloping shoulders. Congratulations Pin !

Pine, bamboo and plum blossom
Clerical (lishu), standard (kaishu) and semi-cursive (hsingshu) calligraphy

3+3 = 6 (so my boy tells me) and this bottle has six sides.
But I'm not sure if I've got them the right way around.

Hexagonal bottles are very difficult to photograph. But I think the bottle is signed Xiaosan, obviously a pen name, and dated 1970 but I doubt that, it looks much more modern.

Any other details on the Chinese, I would be pleased to hear.

Geoff

Geoff,

I thought both the bottle and artist name looked familiar.   See the attached link to Bill's Snuff Bottle Collector site;

Thanks George

Yes Charll, it's the same bottle. I bought it from Bill.
He's a good and reliable source of bottles, I have several from him.

Dear Geoff,

Beautiful bottle. Thank you for posting. I need to check out this site.
I checked the link Charll supplied, and saw you'd copied the original mistake ['hsingshu' should be written 'xingshu' in Hanyu Pinyin; otherwise, Xiaosan should have been written 'Hsiaosan'... Grin Roll Eyes].
Best,
Joey

Thanks Joey

I agree, once you use x in pinyin you should continue to use x and not hs.
But is there any distinction between them? Are there times when you should use one and not the other?

Hi Geoff,

Lovely bottle, it reminds me of scrolls in it's style of painting the 3 friends of winter.

Regards, Adrian.

Dear Geoff,

No, I was just pulling your leg. Roll Eyes Shocked Grin
It should ALWAYS be 'x' instead of 'hs'.
And again, a BEAUTIFUL bottle. Congratulations.
Best,
Shabbat Shalom,
Joey
