Hello Everyone,

My name is Rheuben and I hail from the Midwestern part of the United States.  I share your love of snuff bottles and recently joined this most interesting forum so that I can learn more about this fascinating art form.  My grandmother had a collection of snuff bottles which always mesmerized me every time I'd visit.  Some of the bottles were part of her mother's collection, some of which were passed on to my mother, and now I'm blessed that I've inherited a few that have been in my family for four generations.  As I ponder expanding this fledgling collection, I'd like to learn as much as possible about snuff bottles, and after perusing this forum, decided to join immediately!  Thank you in advance for all the shared knowledge and insights which  can be found here.

Cheers,

Rheuben Gibson.

Dear Rheuben,
a warm welcome from Italy. Wish you will find this place interesting and funny.
You inherited a collection that goes four generations back, i.e. roughly 100 years? Wow, be sure that everybody here are invidious!
I do collect almost only old bottles, and meant for use. So I am eager to see some of your bottles.
Kind regards
Giovanni

Thanks for the greetings everyone!  Giovanni, I will gladly post pictures of some of my bottles (I only have a few!) but I want to make sure I'm doing it correctly.  Can someone please give me a brief tutorial about the best way to post photos, and what is the optimal size for viewing?

Cheers,

Rheuben

Welcome Rheuben!  We are excited to have you join the Forum.  I have been collecting for about 7 years now and live in North Carolina. How interesting to have treasured bottles that are a part of your family heritage. This is a great place to study, learn and share.  All the best!  Jo

Dear Rheuben,

And a warm welcome from me, in Jerusalem, Israel, as well. I believe Giovanni meant 'envious' (rather than 'invidious') re.our opinion of you having bottles which have been in your family for 4 generations! And he's right!
I'm a first generation snuff bottle collector for the last 47 years, but my late mom collected Ancient Glass from the Land of Israel, from 1952, and I inherited 1/4 of her collection (±140 vessels and about 12 individual fragments).
Best,
Joey

Thank you dear Joey! I like to be corrected, i.e. to learn. It is because envious is "invidioso" in Italian.
Kind regards
Giovanni

Dear Giovanni,

So I am 'invidioso' of your native knowledge of Italian, and almost colloquial knowledge of English! Grin
Best,
Joey
