Hello friends,

After read many hours and see hundreds of pictures of snuff bottles in this forum and in several books, I decide to buy my first snuff bottle which I show to you here. Cheesy

I suppose that in your eyes, it’s a simply vintage ivory carved snuff bottle, which have around 50 years. I think that bottle have this age because, the shape is not really well made, the bottle is not inside hollowed, the ivory is very withe, and finally, the bottle is cheap. But I buy this bottle because in my eyes it is a beautiful item, and because I’m sure that my biggest concerns is solved; this item is not faux.

Sorry for my English, I study in a regular Spanish school!!!

Hi Albert,

Congratulations on your first bottle!
I have a very similar one I bought in 1972 in London. It was my third bottle!

These bottles were produced in large numbers in Hong Kong between 1967-1975. The front always has a low relief carving of 1-2 figures, and the reverse is etched with a landscape and a short inscription, then filled with black ink.
The text is sometimes signed "Yu Fu" (渔父) and followed by a seal in red.

Here is an example from that group.

Dear Albert,

CONGRATULATIONS! One of my first snuff bottles in 1970 was very similar to yours.
It's a good start, and at least 'vintage' (over 40 years old).
Best,
Shabbat Shalom,
Joey

Hi Albert,

The example I posted is not mine. It is one of a group of 20 or 30 which were being sold off in a hurry by a US auction house a couple of years back, on the eve of new and tougher ivory trading laws in California.

My bottle has been posted on the Forum before, but when I tried to locate it I couldn't, so posted that example in its place.
