Dear Adrian,
what is that fabric? Have you found it? You said nothing. Is it new or old?
It looks very nice!

Dear Giovanni and Joey,

It's a new fabric that I had sent from China and was bought through a site called Etsy. It has taken some time to arrive and I couldn't find it again when I looked at the sellers listing so it may have all been sold.

I'm surprised the makers of the padded snuff bottle boxes haven't used it.

Regards, Adrian.

Too bad!  Once you get it see if it has a manufacturers name or pattern number.  If so I will be happy to research and see if we can find the source.  I think many of the collectors would love to have some of this fabric.  I  also have an interior designer friend who might be able to find it for us if it is one of those fabrics that has to be purchased through a designer.  The thrill of the hunt for snuff bottles and snuff bottle fabric!!!

I like it, but still prefer the traditional Song Dynasty brocade pattern, used for hundreds of years to cover the padded boxes which hold scrolls, snuff bottles and other art works. I was thinking it would be great for drapes in my study/ collection space...
Best,

Joey

Sorry but the seller has replied that she has no more stock and wasn't able to supply a manufacturers name.

Hi Adrian,

The bidding could be quite intense, if you ever decide to auction your length of cloth....  Cool

Yes it could!!!  If you do see any manufacturer name or number on the fabric once you get it let us know.  We might be able to trace it down unless it is a vintage piece.  Enjoy your beautiful find Adrian.

Greetings Everyone,

I haven't posted anything for awhile, and thought this would be a good one in honor of today's opening ceremony for the 2018 Winter Olympics.  Although it's not a snuff bottle, it was always in my grandmother's snuff bottle display case along with her other bottles.  It's a silver bottle, measuring 2 5/8" tall, is in the shape of the country, and has the official seal of the Yi Family, of the short lived Korean Empire.  According to her records, it was presented to her aunt from the Korean Consul in Los Angeles, around 1950, who said that it had been given to his grandfather by the Emperor of Korea.

What would this bottle have been used for, medicine?  Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Rube.

Dear Rube,

It is interesting, but the use is anyone's guess. Possibly to hold medicine or a rare liquid [oil? sake? perfume?]
Nice patina - don't polish it.
Best,
Shabbat Shalom,
Joey

Thanks Joey,

I'll be sure not to alter it's patina.

I have been wondering about cleaning snuff bottles. What is the best way?

Catherine,
I think it really depends on the type of bottle and material. But regarding metal ones, I’d personally avoid affecting one’s current patina.

Cheers

Dear Catherine,

It depends what the material is.
Give us an example of a bottle needing cleaning, and we will do our best to
give you a solution.
Best,
Joey

Dear Joey,

Was the pun accidental or intended?   Grin
