George,

I like the overall form and style of this one. Even the foot rim looks convincing. A pity is isn't black nephrite!
You don't say how tall it is.

Does the inside of the mouth show any join marks ?

I don't think so... But could be mistaken about that.

Change the stopper, and this bottle would make a perfectly presentable "shelf filler" in a display cabinet.

Dear Tom,

I was thinking, "A pity it is not Rhinoceros horn!". From 1970 till I stopped collecting all materials in 1991 or 1992, I looked hrd for a carved bottle in rhino horn but never found one I could afford that was 'right' (and didn't find all that many anyway).

This looks like what I would have wanted. Oh well... Cheesy
Best,
Shabbat Shalom,
Joey

Happy Friday Everyone,

I've mentioned on the Forum that my brother and I often bid on bottles together at auction, sometimes a double lot, and then the next time we see one another, we will play a hand of cribbage or 2 out of 3 ( depending how bad we like the bottle) to determine who gets first pick and so on.  Well, we successfully bid on a lot at the last Bonhams auction (not as nice a bottle as yours, Samson) but we were both in the mood for an overlay.  Well, he's coming up for a visit for our holiday Labor Day Weekend and we will be playing again!

So, for a Friday Fun Bottle, make that bottles, I thought I'd pose a question to the group:  if you had first pick, which bottle would you choose?

Thanks for playing!

Rube.

Dear Rube,

Thanks! Smiley

Beautiful bottles you and your brother got! I too have a special liking for Yangzhou overlay bottles and yours look in a fine condition! In my view they are not "Friday fun bottles"! Wink

Congratulations!

Best,
Samson

P.S. I'd pick the first one if to choose between the two. Simply love it!

I think may have shared this one last year... But picked it for todays Friday bottle..

No idea how they accomplished this.. The seller posted a few just prior to my buying this one, and then they posted a few shortly after.. Have not seen any listed since those..

Dear Rube,

I agree with Samson - definitely the first one. But I'm Israeli: OF COURSE I'll pick 'Blue & White' over any other combination of colours!  Roll Eyes Grin

Dear George,

What is that? Is it an IPSB inside a clear glass bottle?

Samson, I didn't mean to denigrate these two to Friday Fun status, more the game itself!  I'm not surprised that there is division amongst the field, as I, too, seem a bit conflicted.  Thanks for playin' along, I'll be sure to post the results next weekend!

Cheers,
Rube.

Hi George, very interesting, something I haven't seen before. A bit like a ship in a bottle but a lot more difficult! Thanks for posting.

Regards Jason.

Hi Rube,

My choice would be the blue and white. Both bottles are lovely. Good luck with your "bottle battle." I hope you get the one you want!

Rube,
I will pick the blue over white. The mask design looks out of this world though !

Dear George ,
You posted on Aug 11 a snuff bootleg with zodiac design. Could you add a top view of the mouth. You guessed the material could be some composite. Are you in possession of the bottle now ? Rube asked me to refer to this post of yours after I posted a bottle which I thought was organic and carved out of some hardwood.

Inn Bok,
I'm drawn to the rather alien looking masks too! I've often wondered about that motif, is it associated exclusively with Yangzhou bottles? That seems to be the only type I see them on.
Thanks for playin!
