Hi Peter,

Your bottle is just plain wonderful! I LOVE IT. Highest marks on this one. One of the sweetest bottles I have seen, full of personality. Beatrice Potter would concur.

Best regards,

Hi Peter,

Thank you for saving me from putting up another of my dodgy bottles. Cute squirrel.

Hey Peter,

The back is beautiful - glad you included a pic - looks like some moss agate going on there. A very interesting combination!

I really, really like this bottle!

What a pleasure it is to find happiness in a bottle!

Lovely bottle! Turquoise bottles so rarely appeal to me - and perhaps it's because the high relief is so common on them - but this one does. The carving seems to be very well done.

I tend to like the plainer turquoise bottles more, but as a work or art this one does appeal.

Dear Ming,

We (SB collectors in the 1970s/1980s) used to call these 'cabinet bottles', since the ornate and deep relief carving made them very appealing to the Western tourists / collectors who were flocking to China in the period ca.1860-1920 on the steamship runs from Europe and North America (and Australia) to China and East Asia. These people would put them on display in cabinets on their return home.
Thank you for posting,
Joey

George - There is no spoon. It is broken.
Joey - Thanks for the information. Yeah, it is for display only.
I purchased this one with others all together and this is my favorite.

This is a cheap bottle I bought about 3 years ago when I started collecting again. I think it was described as 19th Century but I took that with a pinch of salt as it didn't look it. It has been languishing in an unloved corner of my collection and I was considering selling it on.

I was surprised to see a pair of near identical bottles come up for sale at Sotheby's in Australia with a guide price of A$ 1,500-2,000 as a "Pair of unusual inscribed enamel snuff bottles". 6cm high. Identical calligraphy as well.

Needless to say I've become slightly more fond of it now.

Regards, Adrian.

Interesting bottle Adrian.. I know little about porcelain, but would have agreed this to be fairly modern..

Very interesting about the Sotheby's auction.. Do you have a link to that ?

Here is my Friday bottle..

It stands just 2" tall less the wood stopper wrapped in cloth and glued to the porcelain top with wood spoon. Decorated with a little green enamel..  Thin wall with wide mouth..

It would be fun to know if there is any meanings to any of the six seals if someone can make them out..

Hey George - cool bottle! I looked through the Handbook of Marks on Chinese Ceramics and couldn't find any of the marks.
By the way I think 2 and 3 are the same and 1, 5, and 6 are the same.

Looks like the original stopper too!

So I tried to figure out Number 4 a little more and think it says:  Fú dian, Lao dian - the dian's appear to be two different ways to spell it - so my guess (probably really bad) is: "Good store, old store!"

Hahaha

Hi George,

https://www.sothebysaustralia.com.au/list/AU0815/153

Not porcelain but enamel on copper.

Sorry, can't help with the seals but like the bottle.

Regards, Adrian.
