Snuff bottles have been produced in Quimper since the 1870s. Although the formal name for snuffs is "tabatières" (tobacco holders), those made in Quimper are usually called "secouettes," from the verb "secouer" meaning "to shake."

I stumbled upon this one on eBay today. It is a pretty old one..




Went looking for a few more example, and found a few more examples .... All of the snuffs pictured below were produced in the late 1800s and are unsigned.

The stoppers for these bottles, as is the case for the majority of snuffs, was probably made from a small piece of cork.
