I am so happy I could burst! My fish bottle came today and it's even better than I ever hoped! Because I post so many trash bottles on here (really because those are the ones I have questions about) ... I thought I would post a "real" bottle for a change!
I feel like a bonafide snuff bottle collector now!

Could someone please help me with the translation? I can't tell if it is dated or not. I think it says k'ui-ch'ou which would be 1913.

Dear Cathy,

Big congratulations on this one! Indeed a very decent bottle by Ye the Elder!

I love fish. Fish is a lucky creature for us Chinese. It signifies fortune, like we always have left over fortune... Grin

Best, wish you plenty of fishes to come! Wink

Thank you Samson! I feel like good fortune shined on me to be able to get this bottle so their good luck charm is already working!

Do you think it is dated? I can't figure out the first character.

You're right Cathy. If the dating written there is honest (I don't see why not), it's Kuichou year and it's 1913.

Nice one Cathy.

I do like his fishy bottles.

I saw one up at auction over here in the UK and wondered if this was it although my information from the auctioneers was that one was unsold.

Regards, Adrian.

Hi Cathy,

It was Semley Auctioneers, 12th October and was lot 428. You may be able to find it on "saleroom" site, look for auctioneers and past auctions for Semley.

My notes are a rock crystal bottle with inclusions looking almost like cracks. Rounded body with carved inset panels front and rear. Yeh Chung San (Ye Zongsan) Goldfish and Trout (?) Estimate £100-200. Unsold.

I didn't look at it in any depth at the time but very similar to yours in the actual painting subject in the fish it included but a very different bottle.

Regards, Adrian.

Sorry Adrian, I can't find it. Looked on the saleroom and can't find where Semley had an auction on Oct. 12th.
This one "appears" to be glass. I am not certain about that, but there are no cracks. I bought it from a private owner in the UK though, so that's why I was interested in that auction record - wanted to make sure it was all above board.

Hi Cathy,

Me bad. Many apologies as it was the 12th November which should now make it easier to find.

Regards, Adrian.
