General information about the Site

This Chinese snuff bottle community forum is dedicated to the novice, more experienced, and expert collectors. Topics are intended to cover all aspects and types of bottle collecting. To include trials, tribulations, identifying, researching, and much more.

We also freely pour out our pains of spending money, only to later find that our choice in a bottle was not as we expected ! There is no extra charge for our "pain management" program !

We are also working extra hard towards supporting, and giving well deserved recognition to all new and upcoming student artists of "Very Modern" inside painted bottles.

Among other things, donations help keep the forum free from Google type advertisements, and also make it possible to purchases additional photo hosting MB space.

Forum Bottle In The Spotlight !

Another extra special bottle that our fellow collector Pin shared. The "thousand word" classical text is painted by LI Ruchen with a beautifully shaped bottle of upright rectangular form, and sloping shoulders. Congratulations Pin !

Dear Members,

This is a landscape bottle I've had for several months now. It is about 3 1/2 inches tall not including the stopper. I have been told that it is a Bi Rongjiu Shandong piece from the late 19th/early 20th Century. The Bi Rongjiu pieces I have seen vary quite a bit in painting quality. Please let me know if clearer pictures are needed.

Thank you,

Brian

I am confident enough to only say it is Shandong painting.. But not enough there for me to say for sure Bi Rongjiu.

Brian

I own about a dozen or so Bi Rongjiu bottles and yes the quality varies but I don't believe this is of his hands. Maybe others can chime in. In general when he has space to paint like this example style the quality tends to be better.

Pat, since you have so many Bi Rongjiu bottles could you please look at the one I posted here and give me your opinion? I am not very hopeful that it is Bi Rongjiu but am thinking maybe a student or son? Here's the thread:

Thanks Pat. I see what you mean. Many of the Ronjiu bottles have crisper artwork than mine. Perhaps Steven or Joey can comment. They identified a bottle with very similar artwork as Rongjiu albeit a much smaller one. I will try to put up some clearer pictures.

Dear Brian,

It does not look to me like Bi Rongjiu's work, but possibly that is also because the photo quality is low.
best,
Joey

Hi Joey,

Here are some better quality pictures. I believe you have already seen this bottle and thought it might be Bi Rongjiu or his studio.

Thank you,

Bria

I agree with Pat - NOT Bi Rongjiu or his direct students.

Thanks to everyone for clearing that up for me. As far as age goes, are we looking at early to mid-20th Century?

Thank you,

Brian
