Dear Giovanni,

Jingdezhen started up again in 1865.
So are you dating this bottle to ca. 1865 - 1885?
I wonder if Richard knows who would have been worthy of
a portrait in that time frame.
Was it a private commission or public personages?
Best,
Joey

Hi John & all

As there is no inscription on the bottle, it is hard to pinpoint the identity of the portraits.

However, from the dressing style of the second photo, it appears to be emperor Guanxu.

The portrait in the first photo appears to be an official from the Ming dynasty.

Just a guess.

Regards.

Richard

Guys,

Accepting that it is the Guangxu Emperor [Sorry, Richard. it is a reign title,
not a name, so it can't be 'Emperor Guangxu'], then it can't be Tongzhi period either,
unless the artist was a prophet!
So let's accept that it is the Guangxu Emperor, and thus ca. 1874 - 1890.
And the Ming figure must be someone respected, possibly a famous
Ming Scholar.
Best,
Joey
