Dear Richard,

Wonderful! Thank you for sharing. Please pass on warm regards to Kelvin (YT), Inn Bok, and Johnson Tan. If I've met the others, please do so to them as well (I don't remember them, but do remember Johnson Tan from a previous convention (HK in 2014? Chicago in 2015?), and of course I consider YT and Inn Bok 'old friends' by now.
Best,
Joey

Dear Richard,

Yes, you are right! I don't know why I have the reputation for a great memory; yours is much better than mine.
Please pass my regards on to JK Foo, as well.

I hope to visit Singapore in 2018, a few weeks before Chinese New Year, and will aim to be able to attend a meeting, G-D Willing.  I also owe YT another visit, and want to see all of you there, including Pin and his family of course, and also Dr. Kai Sang Wong. He was also very hospitable (as you ALL were!) when I visited in Singapore in 2014 after meeting him at the Hong Kong convention that year.
Best,
Joey

Hi all

Apart from our regular monthly gathering on 1 Oct this month, the group members were also invited for a special treat on 15 Oct, a trip to Kelvin's Eco Resort at Sentosa!

We were treated to a delicious lunch whereby we savour the famous freshwater Sultan Fish. These were reared in Kelvin's resort and caught live for the meal. This fish was a delicacy and previously was only offer to the royal families in Malaysia, and hence it's named the Sultan Fish!

After dessert and coffee, we were taken a guided tour by Kelvin to explore the resort. We visited the farm where the Sultan Fish and other fishes were reared followed by a visit to the garden whereby Kelvin cultivated his earthworm compost.

After which is bottle viewing time!

We have a fruitful session in exchanging experience and viewing each other's bottles before we call it a day!

It was a wonderful session and the group would like to thank Kelvin for making this event possible!

Here are some of the photos taken at the event:

1. 7 members were present at the event, namely: Dominic, Daniel, Dr Lam, JK Foo, me, Kelvin and Inn Bok (from left to right)
2. Dr Lam with the Sultan Fish

5. Dessert time!
6. The farm where the fish is reared
7. The garden at the resort
8. Eco-friendly furniture for the garden

Enjoy!

Dear Richard and Inn Bok,

I'm really envious! As if the fish and the cake weren't enough, there were bottles to handle as well.

Thanks for sharing.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh  !

Wish  I was  there  too ! Sultan  fish.....  Mmmmmmmmmmmmm

My wife  and I  once  stayed  at Kevin's  Eco  resort  hotel for a  few nights  -  wonderful  swimming  pool !

But beware  of the   home-grown  chillies in  the  roof  garden  (ask  Kevin about  it  !)

Will  anyone  from S'Pore   be  at the  ICSBS  London  convention ?

I will be  in London at that  time with my wife from  1 - 8  Nov ,  sharing  an  airbnb  apartment  with  Jill  and  Li Hui.  But  we  will not  attend the  convention

My UK  mobile  number  is   0 - 740- 431- 2121  if anyone  wants  to  contact  me  for a  lunch  or  dinner  when there  is a  free  slot  in the  Convention  program

Cheers

Hi Peter

Nice to hear from you and thanks for your kind invitation.

Unfortunately, I will not be attending the London Convention this year due to some family matters.

As far as I know, Mr JK Foo and Mr Johnson Tan will be attending but I was told that they will be there for only the first 2 days.

Regards.

Hi all

Today, we welcome our first visitor to our monthly gathering, Mr SL Tan. Other members present are Yin Pin, Kelvin, Dr Lam and me.

Some of you probably know SL as well. He has done an intensive study on glass snuff bottles and had written an article for the ICSBS Journal.

SL Tan is a Singapore collector but is currently living in Los Angeles.

I first met him at YF Yang’s shop in Hong Kong in 1993. After which, we visited Robert Kleiner at George Bloch’s apartment and also Hugh Moss house in Shatin together. SL was previously stationed in Tianjin and has the first-hand experience to handle many modern glass bottles.

As such, most of our members have brought glass bottles to tap his brains on the subject.

We have an interesting interactive session with him this afternoon. And view many bottles too!

Regards.

Richard

It looks like a great meeting, but horrible tabletops for viewing bottles. Good thing you had Yee Pin's new trays for looking at bottles safely!  Grin
Best to all,
Joey

Hi All

We all have had a wonderful monthly gathering yesterday afternoon.

Since this is still the Chinese New Year season, we opt for a special occasion by having lunch at Kelvin’s Sentosa Siloso Beach Resort instead of the regular afternoon tea session.

Thanks, Kelvin for the warm hospitality and a sumptuous meal!

Here are what we have:

We started with a Lohei, a Chinese New Year custom here which includes raw fish tossed with mixed vegetable strips. It is just like the Western salad except for the raw fish, which in our case has been substituted with abalone.

This is followed by a personal Penchai each, a concoction created by the chef of the resort.

Again, Penchai is a traditional Chinese dish, especially popular among the Cantonese.

It is a soup that comprises of many different ingredients such as fish maw, mushroom, sea cucumber, shrimp, cabbage, carrot, shredded dry scallops, lotus root and radish. It is like the Chinese version of the western casserole.

Then came the main star of the day, a steamed Sultan fish garnished simply with spring onions and some shredded carrots, freshly caught from the Resfleshond! The flesh was tender and taste really fresh!

Next comes the lightly fried mushrooms with asparagus to clear the palate.

This is followed by seared beef cubes torched over a slate of Himalayan salt, served right at the side of the table.

The meal ended with a handmade red bean paste with lotus seeds dessert.

All these were drowned down with some white wine, courtesy of Johnson.

Mr Ng, Kelvin’s father was also there to join us for the occasion.

Next, it’s bottle viewing time! Kelvin showed us some rare bottles and some interesting automatons. Although not snuff bottles but one of them also served as a snuff box.

Of course, there are many bottles from members as well!

We all have a wonderful time filling our tummies as well as a feast for the eyes!

Wish you were here?  Grin Grin

Hi Richard,

Thanks for sharing. Wonderful to see you all enjoying yourselves. You're making the rest of us very envious.

Thankfully, you spared us any photos of the "many bottles" you also enjoyed. That would have been to much to bear....!  Sad

Regards,
Tom

We were so engrossed in viewing all the little treasures that we have forgotten to take any photos!

Wish you can join us in the near future!
