Hi to everyone and thanks for letting me in !

As the heading suggests I'm a new member from the UK and my username relates to where I live which is the New Forest in the South of England although it is neither new or a forest. It was formed many hundreds of years ago when William the Conqueror came over from France and gave us a bit of a kicking and claimed the lands as his and decided to make part of it his deer hunting ground so burnt down all the churches but one and kicked most of the landholders off. While it does have many forested areas, the majority is open land and is worth a visit if you are ever over here.

I've been collecting snuff bottles for nearly 30 years, starting with cheap bottles to add to other small bits that I liked. Took a long break with very occasional purchases but have recently been adding bottles at an alarming rate with a preference for IP bottles both new and old.

If I can make it work I will put up some pictures but the phrase relating to old dogs and new tricks might apply. I found the forum after looking for information on Ma Shao Hsuan and fakes relating to him and may share my experience in the relevant place.

If it has worked then attached is a image of a bottle that always makes me smile when I look at it, any help regarding the artist would be greatly appreciated

Regards to you all, Adrian.

Hi again, and warm welcome to the forum Adrian !

Looking forward to seeing more of your bottles ...  I did have to resize your picture.. If you can crop them down to a smaller size that would be best.. If your not sure how to crop an image down to size, let me know...

Wonderful cat paintings !

Hi Adrian,

Welcome aboard. You've come to the right place for discussing snuff bottles.

I'm originally from the UK too, but now live in Bangkok.

Adrian,

Wonderful bottles all.  I too understand how the bottle in your first post brings on a smile to your face, for I have the same reaction each time I look at it and I do not particularly care for cat/kitten motifs.  Frankly I am dog person.

Your collecting history has a similar ring as well.  I acquired my first bottle in 1979 while helping my father with his booth during one of Seattle's (Washington State, US) major annual antique shows.  Then collected a few bottles passively up to 2005 at which time I got more serious.

My collection is split, about have its number is contemporary interior painted bottles, and half is antique and contemporary collectable snuff bottles in various materials.

Anyway welcome to the Forum, and look forward to sharing conversations and bottles.

Charll

Welcome.  We are glad to have you join us.  I enjoyed all the bottles you have posted.  I have been collecting for six years.  I enjoy the antique bottles as well as old and modern inside painted bottles.  I live in the US on the east coast.  Your first post, the cat bottle, is cute.  I am an animal lover so bottles with animals always make me smile. In fact the first bottle that I ever saw was an antique porcelain bottle with a cat watching a butterfly in a garden.  It was at an antique auction in Ashville NC in July of 2010.  I was hooked!  No I did not get the bottle, but it got me started researching and collecting shortly after that!  Again Welcome.   Jo
