Dear Giovanni,

I didn't like the type, but asked YF Yang about the Stevens one, since it went quite cheaply at auction, even when B & Ws anyway were anyway quite cheap (I think the Bob Stevens auctions at Sotheby's in Honolulu and in NYC were 1981-1984).

He told me it was late Guangxu or Republic.

Thank you dear Joey, it is important to know that, because everybody can fail, even a real expert can have a wrong opinion. This is often not considered, especially when a not worldwide known expert has the courage of contesting the opinion of an expert. "Who are you for contesting XXX?". Sometimes it is worth to do.
Kind regards
Giovanni

Dear Giovanni,

The only 'Author' I know of who has never been wrong is G-D!
And even HIS 'copywriters' made mistakes, occasionally... Grin
(All the descriptions of camels with Abraham & Isaac in Genesis, ca.1850-1800 BCE (BC), are false; the first camels are known in West Asia (ie., Persia westward) from ca.1000-950 BCE, the time of Kings David & Solomon. This is Hebrew Bible (Christian Old Testament).
In the New Testament, the description of Calvary ["...which is called in the Hebrew GOLGOTHA..."],
is patently false, since, while Aramaic and Hebrew are related languages, 'golgotha' is in the first, while it would be 'golgolet' in Hebrew.  Obviously, G-D Doesn't make mistakes; someone decided to 'improve' on the Christian Holy Text. ).

The late Bob Stevens gave the best most up-to-date information he could find in 1976. We've learnt quite a bit since then. Thank G-D. But his honour is assured, as a great early collector and scholar.
Best,
Shabbat Shalom, Happy New Month of Shevat, and

GONG CI FA CAI / GUNG HEE FAT CHOY (Putonghua/Cantonese)

Joey
