Hi All :

It has been awfully quiet these few days

I will share a bottle from Lee RuChen, and hopefully, the ball will start rolling again.

This is the "thousand word" classical text. The text is literally constructed using 1000 different Chinese characters....In ancient China, this is also the text that everyone will need to go through before starting on other scholastic training..... somewhat like the primary 1 text book for scholar.

Enjoy

Dear all,

I've been wondering, what if the artist makes a mistake in the middle of painting or calligraphing in a bottle, especially one like this. Is there any remedy for it? Or there's simply no room for error?

Best,
Samson

Hi All :

Glad that you like the bottle.....

HI Geoff :

the bottle is about 87mm without stopper....

Hi Pat :

I sort of do up a website for some of the Chinese Inside Painter with my free time......

My hobby use to be mostly outdoor like fishing and street photography....nowadays, I usually stay at home to accompany my baby girl and since I am free time at home, I start figuring our how to construct a website for Zhang Yong and other artist to help them reach out to English speaking collectors.

You can click on my website icon (world icon) below the Duan Stone bottle that I use for my avatar and it will bring you to my website..... do give me feed back if you have time to look thru it.... its kind of amateur and my first try to do something like that.

Hi George :

What a great surprise to see the Lee RuChen bottle when I open the forum home page..... Thanks a lot

Dear Pin,

     Again, a wonderful bottle.
But what's with the staining of the glass? Jill & Li Hui brought me 2 quartz bottles by Li Ruchen with Zhuanshu calligraphy. I did not take them - I don't like the staining...
Best,
Joey

Joey,

The yellow background gives a warm feeling and I suspect is to provide the idea of parchment.  Personally I do like this type of background on the right bottle. I agree though that with a calligraphy bottle you lose both a bit on clarity and crispness in the design with such a background.

Dear Charll,

I get the idea, but don't like it.
I bought my first Gan Xuanwen (Early Period) IPSB in Sotheby's London in July 1981. It was stained with snuff.
Years later, I asked Y.F. if I should clean it. His advice was to look at it as if it was an antique painting on old yellowed silk. I then asked if i should use snuff to stain all my IPSBs. His response was, "No. Leave clean ones clean. But if it is already stained, see the positive in it."

No need for Li Ruchen to stain a bottle unless requested to do so by the one commissioning it. I did NOT request it, and did not buy the two made for me with staining. If Pin, or anyone else buying one likes it, I'm happy for them.
Best,
Joey

Hi,

1.  It  should  be  Li Ruchen (not  Lee )  李

2.   I don't  think the  bottle  is stained.  I think  it's the  color  of the  crystal  itself

I  have a  Song Yiming  bottle  in  natural  blue  crystal

Cheers

Peter

Dear Peter,

I've corrected the title on my posts to Li Ruchen, instead of Lee RuChen. Thank you.

Is your bottle in blue 'crystal',  blue quartz or blue lead crystal?
If the later, nothing natural about it, except for the  25% oxygen, 30% silicon, 24% lead oxide, 10% sodium or potassium, 10% calcium, and 1% other components such as iron, tin and fluorine – which are added to alter the chemical and physical properties of the glass.
The colour might be in the mix, but that does not make it 'natural'.

But Jill & Li Hui told me that Li Ruchen stained the bottle blanks before she painted them for me.
They might have meant that she ordered pre-stained blanks, but that is not what they said.
And the quartz blanks were obviously NOT coloured  in the quartz, but on the interior surface.
Best,
Joey

Hi  Joey

Based  on what  you wrote and  what  Jill/ Li Hui  told you I stand corrected   re Li Ruchen's  "yellow" bottles
(I did  not  follow the   thread  far enough  - thus  I did  not  realize  this was a bottle  specifically  commissioned  by  you  from Li Ruchen)

It seems they obviously were pre-stained.  End of  subject.

Li Ruchen  is  really the  current  Top  Master (Mistress!)   of minute character  painted  bottles.
Congratulations  on your  purchase !

________________

My Song Yiming "blue" bottle is genuinely blue (but very light  grey- blue) lead crystal of  some sort or another : most probably  as  you suggest -  artificial crystal with different chemical composition from  normal  crystal.

I have never seen any  other IPB  with the same blue crystal glass  (and in fact - to my  mind  - the painting would  have  been  better  in a  clear crystal  bottle)

So I conclude that SYM just stumbled  on a  blue-tinted  crystal  bottle and used  it  to paint  as a one-off.

Cheers

Peter

PS:  At Geoff's home  last week  I saw  two   early  "village scene"  SYM bottles  which  Geoff  bought  from  Bill  Patrick and  which I have  always  admired  for their  elegant  simplicity

Hi Peter,

Yes, I had commissioned Li Ruchen to paint me 5 bottles in Zhuanshu, but 2 were stained yellow, and I did not like the staining. So I bought the other three, and Li Hui also sold me a miniature Li Ruchen that he'd kept last year, when I bought 5 of her works. So I got 4 Li Ruchen examples in LA, 3 in Zuanshu and the miniature in Kaishu.

I have seen a Wang Xisan in blue glass, with a winter landscape from 1969 (#208 in "White Wings", the Kleiner Family Collection sales catalogue by the late Robert Kleiner). Stupidly, I did not buy it when I had the chance, and I say 'stupidly', because at the time and place (the 1998 Seattle convention of the ICSBS), I was feeling the cold (AC was too strong in the Dealers' room), and looking at the winter landscape in the blue glass made me feel colder! It was not cheap, but compared to today's prices, the price of a Wang Xisan 19 years ago seems like a bargain!
Oh well.
 Joey

Hi  Joey

Yes, now you mention  it, I  do recall  seeing a WXS in blue-stained  glass /crystal.

I also have an early  Hu Xiaoran VMIPB  in a very lightly blue-stained  glass / rystal (so light blue it's barely  perceptible)

Cheers
Peter

PS: GEORGE :  Could  you please  change the  title of this  thread (and also the title  of thesidebar  spotlight  bottle)  to  LI  Ruchen instead  of LEE Ruchen ?
Coincidentally - just today  I received the ICSBS  Winter 2016  journal, and inside the  back cover there's an advert by Jill  Guojie and  Li Hui  (VMIPB dealers based in bJ ) featuring Ms  Li  Ruchen's  calligraphy works.
She was  born in 1982 and  studied  under  Wang Xisan and  Wang Guanyu
I'm  sure  she would  appreciate to  see  her  name  correctly  spelt in pinyin, and  this  will also avoid  new-comers to the  Forum getting confused
