Beautiful things deserve appreciation

« on: September 07, 2016, 02:44:17 am »

Dear all,

I came across this object that has been described as a "Satsuma" snuff bottle. Personally,
I've never come across such a snuff bottle before. Looks really interesting but I simply can't identify it. The name given suggests a Japanese origin. I decide to start this thread under the porcelain category for now. Any comment?

Best,
Samson

I would have to call it a vase rather than a bottle...

That would be a miniature vase then. It's 2.25 in high.

Definitely Japanese Satsuma and it is a small vase.   Charll

Dear Samson,

I agree with George and Charll, that it is Satsuma pottery and Japanese, and a miniature vase, but the first view seems to show a crack across the front.

Joey

That's right Joey, it does unfortunately have a crack.. What a shame...

It's the first time I've come across such object. Now I know it's a satsuma ware!

Samson

Dear Samson,

With that damage, I hope you didn't buy it.
Best,

Dear Joey,

I never thought of including it into my "to buy list" as I already had a feeling that it may not be a strict snuff bottle. Just wanted to share with you all and broaden my knowledge as I'd never seen anything like it before. Smiley

So don't worry!  Wink
