Dear YT,

I agree with Samson that it is a beautiful bottle, and I thought at first that it was a late 19th C. copy of ZLY. Then I thought, "maybe he is right that it is ZLY?".  I've been reliably informed that I should have trusted my first judgement!
Wink Grin Roll Eyes   And that it is Bi Rongjiu signing as ZLY.

I'm kicking myself mentally, because I have 2 extremely similar Four Wangs Landscapes attributed by the late Robert Kleiner to Bi Rongjiu in my own collection, one bought from Paradise Antiques in Honolulu, the other from Bob Hall in London.

Best,
Joey

Thank you Pin, Samson and Joey.

Joey's right. I got this bottle more for it's provenance (Charles Swain, John Fell Ruckman, Sothebys HK)  and later started appreciating how nice it is. Cost me US$1,000 before the auction commission.

Cheers,
YT

Very nice landscape bottle YT.

I would have had a hard time knowing it is Bi Rongjiu signing ZLY..

Congratulations !

That's a VERY good price, YT, especially considering the Provenance, going back over 50 years.
Robert Kleiner was charging around 5 times that each, for the 3 he had, in 2013.
Best,
joey

Dear George and Richard,

Thank you. Continuous landscape always have a draw.

Dear Joey,

I was interested in another bottle after an old Hong Kong collector explained to be about indentations on old agates. Then this bottle came before it with nobody bidding, so I took it.

Dear Cathy,

This bottle was posted with it's pricing to let you understand about patience.  Wink

Cheers,

Hey wonderful job putting the images together YT.
So I have a question. Did the "real" Zhou Le Yuan sometimes sign his bottles just "Le Yuan" without the first name?

So how does this bottle look? Looking at the last two characters, I can't tell if it's supposed to be Rongjiu or Leyuan? The last two characters look very similar to me, but the sides bother me a little. But looking at examples - very few actually show the sides so I don't know what they are supposed to look like.

What do you think because I am thinking about buying it?

Dear Cathy,

This type of bottle is usually referred to as attributed to Zhou LeYuan and not painted by him. This is not even painted using his style or near quality so I will advice staying away. The brown color staining on the walls are just ways of camouflaging.

Cheers,
YT

So glad I asked! Thanks! The house cut in half bothered me, and made me think it might be a photo instead of a painting.  Grin

I think this is a falsely signed ZLY, painted by Tang Tzi Chuan ..

I see there are a lot of threads about this artist. I will read up on them. So these are two very conflicting views - I am perplexed and we need a tie breaker! Haha  Cheesy

Oh I see what you mean George. Found this one from the Crane Collection that appears very similar to the style of this bottle

http://www.thecranecollection.com/the-collection/inside-painted/middle-school/?tx_ttproducts_pi1%5BbackPID%5D=60&tx_ttproducts_pi1%5Bproduct%5D=151&cHash=e5314d6230

And then again, it bears some similarity to this one by Yan Yutian - who signed it as Zhou Leyuan

Lets see what others think, but I am leaning towards Tang Tzi Chuan.
