I believe this snuff bottle is made of Beijing pale green glass imitating jade with possibly an agate cap. Is this a modern piece?

Dear Brian,

Will be helpful if you can furnish more info and photos. Size, your own descriptions, 'feelings', top and base photos...?

AND to get more opinions, maybe to add small details like who you address to and signing off.

This bottle does look modern though.

Cheers,
YT

I saw this one as well Brian.. It is simply an opaque glass..  I think in this case not meant to imitate.. But could be wrong  Smiley

Dear Brian,

I agree with YT re. info, but my feeling was that it could be 19th C., from first glance.
But we definitely need more details: height, width, thickness, and a clear look at the bottle, its mouth and base.
Best,
Joey

Dear YT and Joey,

Sorry for not providing adequate details. This bottle is 2.7 inches tall ans 1.7 inches wide. Here are some additional pictures. I hope this helps.

Dear Brian,

To me it looks like a perfectly acceptable mid-late 19th C. milk glass snuff bottle, and could be  considered imitating white jade. Or not. And it even has a red stopper, so they symbolise together Yin & Yang (I understand that Red is a Yang colour, and White a Yin colour).
But I'm bad judging through the screen. Let's see what Steven, Charll, George, Pat, Tom, etc., say.
Best,
Joey

To me it looks correct for mid to late 19th ... And yes the color (based on picture provided ) does look like jade imitation.

Dear Brian,

Thank you for adding the photos. Does this bottle come with a good provenance?
I am seeing it as a 20th Century to modern.

Cheers,

Oh my goodness! I am very sorry Brian - I did not see this post until now.
I bought that bottle!

I bought it because I thought the shape looked like a bottle I saw in this scroll painting on the Marakovic collection in Figure I.33. http://www.e-yaji.com/Marakovic_images/Mar_nar/2_Yongzheng.asp

Very sorry to step on your toes, and I will post pictures when it comes in.

This bottle came and I couldn't be happier. The bottle photographs well but there is a lot of wear and superficial surface scratching. I think these could be buffed out, but not sure if I should do that.

Specific gravity is 2.5, and height is 6cm.

The top is most delightful. Is there a possibility that the collar is gold? It looks like it and is heavy. I don't have a testing kit but could order one. I would have paid what I paid for the bottle just for the top!

Here are pictures.  Smiley Smiley Smiley

Nice bottle!
The collar could well be gold plated. I bought a similar looking one in Hong Kong for HK$ 300 (just the collar, no cabochon or spoon). A bit pricey, because when I buffed it up to remove some glue the gold quickly wore off. I see some traces of exposed base metal on yours too...I think.

Hi Tom,

Thanks for the suggestion, and I think you're right. I got out the loop and looked and there are some scratches where I can see copper underneath.
